Beatrice Piragis Obituary

Beatrice M. (Smith) Piragis, 89 of 1 Otter River Greene, Otter River, died Sunday, July 6, 2008 in the Heywood Hospital, Gardner.

She was born in Gardner, MA, on December 2, 1918, the daughter of the late Herbert and the late Jessie (Smith) Smith.

She grew up in East Templeton, and graduated from Templeton High School. Upon marrying her husband, Adolphus "Scull" Piragis, she moved to Athol.

She worked at the former Union Twist Drill for many years. She was a member of Starrett Memorial United Methodist Church of Athol. She enjoyed crafts, knitting most of which she made many things for the Head Start Program and the Quota Club, crocheting, painting, snow-mobiling, and fishing. She was a member of the Athol-Orange AERO Club.

She leaves four sisters, Bonnie Smith-Sylvester of Hyannis, MA, Madelyn Brown of Otter River; Doris Hill of Gardner, Harriet Zukowski of E. Templeton.

She was predeceased by her Husband, Adolphus "Scull" Piragis who died in 1995, and by two brothers, Donald Smith and Kermit Smith.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 10, 2008 at 11:00 am in the Fiske Funeral Home, 1356 Main Street, Athol. Burial will be at a later date in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, July 9, 2008, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to the Templeton Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 4, Baldwinville, MA 01436.
