Ida Brennan Obituary

Ida M. (Garofoli) Brennan, 78, of 2 Norman St., died on Monday, July 7, 2008 at UMass Memorial Healthcare-University Campus in Worcester after a brief illness.

She is survived by her beloved husband of more than fifty years John P. Brennan; two daughters, Patricia McNamara and Kathryn Irish and her husband James, all of Clinton; two sons, William T. Brennan and his wife Shelly of Gardner; and Sean P. Brennan and his wife Lisa of Merrimac. She leaves three sisters, Rose Kimball and her husband Edward of Boylston; Viola Cooney and her husband Wilfred; and Jean McAuliffe and her husband John, all of Clinton; a brother, Ernest Garofoli and his wife Carol of Middletown, CT; a sister-in-law Patricia Henderson of North Andover; a brother-in-law Robert Gibbons of Clinton; eleven grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by a brother Peter Garofoli, and a sister, Ernestine "Honey" Gibbons.

Ida was born in Clinton to the late Ernest and Eleanor (Zarella) Garofoli. She attended local schools and was a graduate of the Clinton High School Class of 1948. She attended Becker College and later held employment for the former Wick-Wire Spencer Steel Company in Clinton. She and her husband owned and operated the former Brennan's Restaurant and Pub in Clinton for many years. Ida ultimately retired from the Whitcomb Travel Agency in Clinton after more than twenty five years of organizing and enjoying travel around the world. She was a life member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Clinton. She held membership with the Red Hat Society and served as past president of the Clinton PTO. She enjoyed playing cards with the Tuesday Night Card Club and cherished time spent with her loving family.

Funeral services are to be held on Friday, July 11, 2008 from the Philbin-Comeau Funeral Home, 176 Water St., Clinton, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11AM at St. John the Evangelist Church, 80 Union St., Clinton. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery in Lancaster. Calling hours are to be held in the funeral home on Thursday, July 10, 2008 from 5 until 8 pm. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Ida Brennan to St. John the Evangelist Church-Restoration Fund, 149 Chestnut St., Clinton, MA 01510.  Online condolences may be placed at

I was reading the Friday Item and realized that Ida had passed away. Though I did not know her, the girls I live with talk highly about their teacher and I wanted to personally say I am so sorry for your loss. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Your neighbors accross the street (Norman Street).
