Barbara Niemi Obituary

Barbara H. (Boyd) Niemi, 80, of Oxford, passed away Friday, July 11th in St. Vincent Hospital.

Barbara is survived by her high school sweetheart, friend of 66 years and husband of 61 years, Raymond R. Niemi; her children, William T. Niemi and his wife Debra of New Bedford, Christine B. Paige and her husband Richard of Kennebunk, Maine, and Leonard R. Niemi of Oxford; a sister, Geraldine Langille of Harwich; an uncle, Constantine Dorman of Worcester; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. A son, Richard G. Niemi passed away in 1986. a grand daughter Heather and a sister Marilyn Halfrey also pre deceased her. She was born in Worcester, daughter of George and Helen (Dorman) Boyd. Graduated from North High and has lived here all her life.

Barbara worked many years as a receptionist for Rockport Shoe Company in Marlboro and Blue Cross, Blue Shield before retiring. She was also a life guard, and swimming instructor for the City of Worcester and coached for the Auburn Swim Club.

Barbara was a one time active member of St Margaret Mary Church. She was a member of the Women's guild, taught CCD and served on the Bishops fund committee.

Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Tuesday, July 14th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Jimmy Fund, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute 10 Brookline Place West, 6th floor, Brookline, MA 02445-7226, ATTN: Contribution Services
