Doris Martin Obituary

Doris L. (Richards) Martin, 91, of Worcester, was called home to the Lord on Saturday, July 12, 2008, after an illness.

Her husband for more than 55 years, Walter A. Martin, died in 1992.

She leaves three daughters, Diane Brooks, with whom she lived, Charlene D'Angelo and her husband Joseph, and Laurie Kollios, all of Worcester; two sons, Paul Martin and his wife Florence of Wallace, Fla., and Stephen Martin and his wife Maryanne of San Jose, Calif.; 13 grandchildren, Kathy O'Connor and Shane and Jonathan "Brooksy" Brooks; Ryan and Madison Martin; Heather, Justin, Jason and Taylor Martin, and Paul, Michael, Sean and Michelle Martin; eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, including Aline Gamache Blanchard Chosta of Worcester and Richard Gamache of Rumney, N.H. She also leaves her longtime home health aide, Claudine Miller. Her sister, Rita Gamache died in 1938.

Doris was born in Worcester, daughter of Charles R. and Bertha P. (Plamondon) Richards. She attended St. Joseph's School in Worcester and graduated from Worcester Girl's Trade School where she learned dressmaking.

Doris loved cooking and entertaining, and was lovingly known as the party princess. She also loved to travel especially to destinations with beaches. Most of all, she loved her family.

Calling hours at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester, are Tuesday, July 15 from 6 to 9 p.m. The funeral Mass will be Saturday, July 19 at 10 a.m. in St. Peter's Church, 931 Main St., Worcester. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.

Flowers may be sent or donations may be made to VNA Care Network Hospice, 120 Thomas St., Worcester 01608.
