William Shea Obituary

William F. Shea, 91, of the Lodge at Eddy Pond, Auburn, and formerly of Worcester, died Sunday, July 13, 2008 at the Life Care Center of Auburn.

His wife of 27 years, Ruth Ann (Collins) Shea, died in 1976. He leaves two sons: William F. Shea III and his wife Susan A. Shea of West Hartford, and Paul J. Shea and his wife Deidre M. Shea of Hopkinton; six grandchildren: Timothy, Matthew, Michael and Jacqueline Shea, and Kaitlin and John Shea; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters: Eleanor Shea and Ann Daw, and a brother, Philip Shea.

He was born in Worcester, son of William F. and Anne (Stevenson) Shea and lived in Worcester most of his life.

He graduated from South High School in Worcester. He left Northeastern University in Boston to enter the Army during World War II. He was a Captain in the Army Corps of Engineers and served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater.

He was a foreman for 26 years at the Southworks Cable Division of U.S. Steel Corp. He later worked 20 years for the General Spring & Wire Co., before retiring in 1983.

He was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Parish. He was a former president of the Tris Speaker Little League. He enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Oxford Golf Club more than 30 years. He also enjoyed traveling and he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Calling hours at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester, are Thursday, July 17 from 4 to 8 p.m. The funeral will be Friday, July 18 from the funeral home with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 25 Fales St., Worcester. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Mr. Shea was a great man and a pleasure to see. He was always smiling and making us laugh and was quite the ladys man ;) We enjoyed his company.
