William Couming Obituary

William R. Couming, 62, of Millbury, died Thursday, July 24, 2008, in Saint Vincent Hospital.

He leaves his companion of twenty years, Carol Mahlert, with whom he lived; a son, Vincent C. Couming, Sr. and his wife Elaina of Rutland; two daughters, Nicole Kariko and her husband Max of Rutland and Jessica Couming; two brothers, Timothy Couming of New Hampshire and Joseph Couming of Brimfield; three sisters, Grace Ann Dee of Auburn, Veronica Kay of Brookfield and Patricia Boyle of Rhode Island; six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

William was born in Worcester, son of Donnell and Grace (Stuart) Couming. He served in the United States Navy.

William worked as a taxi driver for many years before retiring in 2003. Mr. Couming, in his earlier years, was a Boy Scout, achieving the Eagle Scout Rank. He was free spirited, enjoyed the simplicity of life and was a good hearted person who loved his family and friends very much. He will be missed dearly.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 26th at 6:00 P.M. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be held from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. prior to his funeral service. To share your thoughts and memories of William, please visit his personal guestbook at:

I met Billy from my neighbors of 6 years, Peppy and Judy. A very nice person was always so polite and loved bingo!! He and Carol had given their dog "ANNA" to us who is also missed dearly. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
