Donald Varney Obituary

Donald F. Varney, 77, of Maple Way, died Wednesday, July 30, 2008 in Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.

He leaves his wife of 57 years, Sylvia A. (McLaughlin) Varney; four sons, Richard Varney and his wife Ellen and Dane Varney and Gene Varney all of North Brookfield and Lex Varney of East Brookfield; two daughters, Pamela LeBeau and her husband Dennis of East Brookfield and Diahn Simonelli of Webster; one sister, Ann Nealer and her husband Reedy of North Brookfield; seven grandchildren; two nieces and one nephew.

He was born and grew up in North Brookfield son of the late Carroll and Alice (Rollins) Varney and lived there until moving to East Brookfield in 1982. He graduated from North Brookfield High School.

Mr. Varney owned and operated Varney's Garage in East Brookfield since 1952 starting as the Ford Dealership on Main St. and currently as Varney's Garage Inc. on the East Brookfield Flats. He was a Corporator of North Brookfield Savings Bank. He also was a member of the Hayden Lodge of Masons, the Melha Shriners and the Bay Path Golf Course.

A Memorial Service for Donald will be held Saturday, August 2, 2008 at 11:00 AM in the First Congregational Church in North Brookfield. There are no calling hours. Burial will be held privately in Walnut Grove Cemetery in North Brookfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104-2396 or to the Second Chance Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 136, East Brookfield, MA 01515. Varnum Funeral Home, Inc., 43 East Main St., West Brookfield is directing arrangements.
