John LaBaire Obituary

John Peter LaBaire, 54, of Waite Street, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, in The Meadows of Leicester, after a long illness.

He leaves his father, Arthur H. LaBaire of Cherry Valley; two sisters, Susan Dutra of Westport and Rosemary Cavanagh and her husband Bill of Cherry Valley and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a brother, Arthur LaBaire, Jr. and Buddy, his black lab and best friend.

John was born in Worcester, son of the late Julia (Budra) LaBaire. He lived his entire life in Leicester. He graduated from Saint Peter's High School in Worcester. He was an auto mechanic and owned and operated John LaBaire Auto Repair in Leicester Center for many years.

John's greatest pride was his twenty-five years as a Leicester Fire Fighter. He served as a Lieutenant for ten years, as a member of Company 2 in Cherry Valley for the full twenty-five years, and was a founding member of the Leicester Brotherhood of Fire Fighters. He was a devoted son, brother, uncle, grand-uncle, "Boss", neighbor and friend to many generations of residents of Leicester. He will be sorely missed.

The funeral will be held Friday, Aug. 8 from MORIN-MORRISON FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main Street, Leicester with a Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph's Church, 759 Main Street, Leicester. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Leicester. Calling hours are Thursday from 4:00-7:00 PM. Dear Art, Rosemary, Susan and family. I was so sad to hear the news of John's death. John was not only my friend but also my "boss" at LaBaire Auto Repair in the center of town. I last saw John when I traveled home for a visit 2-1/2 yrs ago. It was like old times just chatting and catching up. Seemed like I had never left as we shared what was happening. John will be missed by so many. He was so involved in the Leicester Fire of Cherry Valley. When his beeper went off at work he was out the door in a flash. Nothing at work was more important than his commitment to the service of his Brotherhood of Firefighters and the town he served so well.
REST IN PEACE, "BOSS"

To the Labaire Family,
Deepest condolences on the loss of John. As young children, my brothers and I spent time at your home with that wonderful porch and I remember my mom babysitting for you. After many years, I remade contact with John through the garage and found him to be a fine man. Peace to your hearts.

To the LaBaire Family, I just heard of John's passing and am deeply saddened. We lived across the street from John for many, many years. We have lived in FL for the past 3 years, but John and I emailed jokes back and forth all the time. I will remember him always.
