Sophie Jowaiszas Obituary

Sophie H. (Yawit) Jowaiszas, 81, of Mayo Dr., died Thursday, August 7, 2008 in Holden Nursing Home, after an illness.

She leaves her children, Thea J. Doherty and her husband John of Holden, John J. Jowaiszas and his wife Angie of Mesa, AZ, and Jill C. Jowaiszas of Rutland, VT; a sister, Helen Koeck of Paterson, NJ; 3 brothers, Frederick Yawit and his wife Kitty of Anchorage, AK, Walter Yawit and his wife Ceil of Barnegat, NJ, and Joseph Yawit and his wife Clair of Fredon, NJ; 7 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A daughter, Joanne T. Jowaiszas and a brother, Anthony Yawit predeceased her.

She was born in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of Oton and Sophie (Wolski) Yawit and lived in New Jersey, Europe, and Connecticut before moving to Holden in 1998. She graduated from Clifton High School and Drake School of Business. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her feistiness that kept her going for so long will be missed by those who knew her.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 7 on Tuesday, August 12th in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. The funeral for Sophie will be held on Wednesday, August 13th from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 114 Princeton St., Jefferson. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Holden Nursing Home, Activity Fund, 32 Mayo Dr., Holden, MA 01520.
