Patricia Barry Obituary

Sister Patricia Barry, 93, of the Sisters of Notre Dame, died Monday, August 11, 2008 at the Notre Dame Long Term Care Center.

She leaves a sister, Sister Rita Miriam Barry, S.N.D. of Ipswich; two sisters-in-law: Lorraine Barry of Northboro and Joan Barry of Whitman; a niece, Patricia Barry Berthelette of Uxbridge; a nephew, Paul Barry; and her sisters in religion, the Sisters of Notre Dame.

She was born in Roxbury, daughter of Patrick and Margaret Barry. She graduated from St. Gregory High School in Dorchester and Emmanuel College in Boston. She entered the Sisters of Notre Dame in 1936.

Sister Patricia was a teacher at Notre Dame schools in Eastern Massachusetts for more than 50 years. She began her teaching career in 1939 at St. Joseph School in Somerville. She went on to teach at St. Laurence and St. Rita schools in Lawrence, and St. James School in Salem. From 1963 to 1970, she was a teacher at St. Augustine's School in South Boston. She was on the staff at St. Gregory School in Dorchester from 1970 until her retirement in 1992.

Calling hours at the Notre Dame du Lac Chapel, 555 Plantation St., Worcester, are Thursday, August 14 from 4 to 6 p.m. with a prayer service at 4:30 p.m. The funeral Mass will follow at 6 p.m. in the chapel.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sisters of Notre Dame, 351 Broadway, Everett 02149. The Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester is directing arrangements.

I did not know Sr. Patricia but I have such great respect for the Sisters of Notre Dame. Their tireless work often goes unnoticed and I just want to say, Rest in Peace.
