Helen Melia Obituary

Helen R. (Akstin) Melia, 79, of Horseshoe Dr., died Tuesday August 12th in the Saint Vincent Hospital, Worcester.

Her husband of 52 years, John F. Melia died in 2002. She leaves her two daughters, Tracy A. Flynn and her husband Michael of Shrewsbury and Sharon R. Melia of Auburn; her sister, Anna Akstin of Worcester, and her two grandsons, Christopher and Nolan Flynn of Shrewsbury, whom she adored.

She was predeceased by her son, Douglas J. Melia in 1992 and by her brother, John Akstin.

She was born in Worcester, daughter of the late John and Rose (Kershis) Akstin and has lived in Auburn for more than 40 years. She graduated from Commerce High School, and after a brief career, she began to raise her family. She was a member of St. Joseph's Parish in Auburn, enjoyed gardening and spending time on Cape Cod in Falmouth, and was a wonderful grandmother.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Helen's family on Thursday August 14th from 9:30 to 10:30 AM in the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St., Auburn. A funeral Mass will then be celebrated at 11 AM in Saint Joseph's Church, 189 Oxford St., Auburn. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Auburn.
