Virgina Wheelock Obituary
Virginia M. (Warren) Wheelock, 86, of Henry St., died Sat., Aug. 9, 2008, in the Milford Regional Medical Center, Milford. Mrs. Wheelock was the wife of the late Philip S. Wheelock, who died in 1997.
Mrs. Wheelock was born Oct. 24, 1921 in West Newton, the daughter of the late Richard G. Warren and Violet (Milnes) Warren-Scott, and had been a resident of Uxbridge since 1942. Mrs. Wheelock was a graduate of Newton High School and Wellesley College, Class of 1942.
Mrs. Wheelock was a longtime member of the Uxbridge Unitarian Church. Her memberships also included the Uxbridge Historical Society, the Women's Club of Uxbridge, and the Quaker Meeting House Association of Uxbridge, where she served as Secretary. She served as the Past Regent of the Deborah Wheelock Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and Past State Recording Secretary of the DAR. Mrs. Wheelock was the Past President of the Historical Society of Early American Decoration (HSEAD) at the Museum of Folk Art in New York City and Editor of the HSEAD's journal, The Decorator. She was a frequent contributor to The Decorator, having written more than twenty articles for the journal. She was an Overseer at the Old Sturbridge Village in Sturbridge, MA. Until recently, she maintained her daily schedule of responsibilities at the family business, Berroco Inc., located in Uxbridge.
Mrs. Wheelock is survived by three sons, Philip S. Wheelock Jr. and his wife, Jacqueline B. Wheelock, of Uxbridge, Richard M. Wheelock and his wife, Linda E. Sandman, of Oak Park, IL, and Warren T. Wheelock and his wife, Caroline N. Wheelock, of Providence, RI; one sister, Catherine M. Claman of Dallas, TX; and four grandchildren, Alexander R. Wheelock and Sophie C. Wheelock of Providence, RI, and Richard W. Wheelock and Daniel P. Wheelock of Oak Park, IL.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, September 27th at 2:00 P.M. in the Uxbridge Unitarian Church, 21 North Main St. (Rt. 122), Uxbridge, MA 01569. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in the Wheelock family lot in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Mendon St., Uxbridge. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the BUMA FUNERAL HOME, 101 North Main St., Uxbridge, MA 01569.
