Mary Lorusso Obituary

Mary T. (DeSantis) Lorusso, 97, a lifetime resident of Worcester passed away peacefully on Sunday after a brief illness. Angelo, her husband of 62 years passed away in 1998. She was also predeceased by a son Victor in 1952. She is survived by her children, John and his wife Priscilla, of Palm City FL, Connie Volpini and her husband Jack, of Falmouth, Ma, Ann Brunelle and her husband Daniel, of Worcester, and Marie Coomey of Naples, FL. She leaves eleven grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren; her sister, Grace Carsen of Cambridge; a sister in law, Sue DeSantis; and many nephews and nieces. Mary was also the sister of the late Rocco DeSantis, Camille Marrino, Anne Connor, Louise Santora, and Rose Napoli. She was born in Worcester daughter of Vito and Anna (Mitorondo) DeSantis.

Mary attended Worcester Trade School and assisted her husband Angelo in the operation of Laurel Hill Spa in Worcester for many years. She was extremely active in church activities at Our Lady Of Mt. Carmel- St. Ann and Our Lady Of Loreto parishes and was also an active member of the Legion Of Mary at St. Stephen's Church.

Mary devoted her entire life to her family and was a source of great strength for all that knew her. She took great pride in everything she did especially her cooking. Sewing and knitting were her great pastimes, which she did expertly and with great passion.One of her great pleasures was making dolls and stuffed animals which were gifts to many of her family and friends. Until recently, she was knitting hats for newborn babies at St. Vincent's Hospital. She will be greatly missed by her many friends at Mount Carmel Apartments where she resided the last ten years.

Relatives and friends are invited to join Mary's family on Wednesday, August 27, between 5 and 8 PM at the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. A funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady Of Loreto Church 37 Massasoit Rd at 10:30 AM, on Thursday, August 28, entombment will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Mary's name to Mount Carmel Apartments, 50 Shrewsbury St., Worcester, MA. 01604.

Sorry to hear about your Mom. She was a very special person to everyone she came into contact with. I remember going into the store many years ago and seeing her and your Dad. My Mom always talked very highly of her. I'm sure now my parents will welcome her with open arms along with your dad. May your memories bring you peace.

My sincere condolences to the entire Lorusso family. Your Mother was a beautiful woman with a big heart. She was a life-long friend of my Mother, Grayce Petrone Bucciaglia and a good friend to my Aunt Sis Bucciaglia. She will be missed not only by family, but by all those that knew her. Now she will again be with Angelo. My prayers are with you at this time of sorrow.
