Dear Trish, Steve's family, and his dance family,

I just learned about your profound loss, and I am so very sorry.

I taught with Steve at the Hartford Arthur Murray Studio in the first half of the 80s before I moved to San Francisco. His love of dance and people, and the size of his heart, made teaching and hanging out with him a joy.

He truly cared about his students, and he gave his all to them, from beginners to his advanced students. I can't count the number of students (ladies and couples alike) who caught his spark and love of dancing. He touched many lives in such a wonderful and positive way.

I will never forget you, Steve - until we meet again. My prayers for peace for all of you who loved and cared for him...

I danced with Steve in the late 80's and early 90's. He was a great teacher, leader and friend. He will be missed. I am saddened that I let so much time pass before returning to the studio. To his family and friends my deepest condolences.

To Trish, his family and the PSM Family,

Steve was a true gift; he indeed had poise, style and motion in his energetic step. His smiling greeting as we entered each Friday always made us both smile in return.

He had a way of making the incredibly complex look so very simple. Anytime anyone was looking for just the right move you would hear them call from the other room, ‘Steve? We need something here…” and he would watch and say “How about...” and show them the exact move that filled the gap but fit so seamlessly there could be no better choice.

His loss will be felt deeply by any who had the privilege to know him, and to have him influence their lives. He left a stylized stamp upon the dance of any who had the pleasure to work with him, and will forever be a part of their fond memories through out each and every life he touched.

To Trish and the Montouri family
Steve will always be remembered as an outstanding teacher and a fantastic leader. He had a wonderful understanding of what it takes to teach those of us with two left feet to dance ever better. He always took the time to greet everyone by their first names and to be sincerely interested in them. He will be dearly missed and not forgotten.

To Trish, Steve's Family, & PSM Family,
I'm wishing you the comfort of loving memories of Steve and the feeling that you'll always be connected to one so close to your heart.
Steve, when we danced, you always made me feel like I could do anything. You will be deeply missed.
The following is something I read and wanted to pass it along.
"What if the brilliant, twinklng stars that bring the dark night sky to life are windows looking out of heaven? And at the very moment when we're wishing on those stars, hoping that the loved ones we have lost are happy, safe, and free...maybe they are looking at those same stars from the other side, makng the same wish for us...sending us all their love."

I am so sorry to hear of Steve's passing. I was close with Steve in the early 1990's with a group of guys that remember him as a good hearted, fun loving guy. I will always think of him fondly.

I first knew Steve as the room mate of one of my friends when I moved to the Worcester area 20 years ago after graduating college. We shared mutual interests and became good friends. Although I left the area 14 years ago, I still often thought of Steve and the good times we had together during one of the best times of my life. I'm sad to say we didn't stay in touch as much as I would have liked, but I never forgot him. He will be missed.

Steve selected the very special music that Marie and I danced to when we did our Bolero showcase earlier this year. Just as with everything else having to do with dance, Steve just knew what would be best.
Also, Steve was my favorite man to dance with!
We will miss his greeting us by name every time we walk into the studio. We will be forever grateful to him for reintroducing us to ballroom dancing.
Our deepest sympathy goes out to Trish and to Steve's family.
With love,

I first met Steve when my daughter Elaine took lessons from him as a teenager, which must have been right around the time he moved to Worcester. He was a wonderful teacher and encouraged Elaine's love of dance. (She's still dancing, now doing jazz and ballet.) A couple of years ago Pat (Pasquale) and I wanted to take lessons, walked into Poise Style and Motion, and there was Steve. He contributed so much to the lives of many people, and we will miss him a lot.

Another lesson learned.
Thank you Steve.

To Trish and Steve’s family.
Shock disbelief and pain! That’s the only way to describe how we feel about Steve’s passing. Steve was our first teacher and he became a good friend. Seven years ago we came to the studio. Steve taught us the love of dance. He encouraged us to become amateur performers and competitors and he did it with great patience, warmth, and understanding. He encouraged us when things weren’t working and celebrated when we were successful. Two years ago we moved to the international style of dancing but we kept our relationship. Steve always made us feel welcome when we came back to the studio and to Maironis. It was like coming back home. He greeted us with his great warm smile and a big hug and asked us about our progress. We will always remember Steve, a man with a big heart, warm smile, and disarming charm. We will miss our good friend.

Dear Trish, the Montuori and PSM families,

We are introduced to PSM in the Spring of 2007 after sponsoring the Dancing with the City event in Worcester. We enrolled in private lessons soon after and were fortunate to have the talents of Steve and Trish as our instructors. As a 'newcomer" to ballroom dancing, I truly appreciated Steve's ability to guide me through so many dances and always make me feel good. I often would arrive at the studio feeling down and within minutes of waltzing around the floor, I would be smiling and laughing and on to the next dance. We were preparing for my first showcase for the end of the year and the competition in Boston in February. Like so many have said before me, Steve was a great dancer and teacher, but more importantly, a great man. I will always appreciate how he treated everyone with respect. As the priest reminded us all yesterday at Steve'e services, he was called to Heaven to dance with the angels. One day I will meet him there to keep on dancing! Steve, thank you for inspiring me to dance and you will always be in my thoughts and prayers. Ann and Howard Peterson

Trish and Steve's Family,
I am so sorry to hear about Steve. He was a great individual and he inspired us all to dance. When I danced at the PSM Studio on Friday evenings I remember Steve would be playing the music and he would have a big smile on his face. He watched all the dancers move around the floor and I know he was saying "these are our PSM students and they have become good dancers".
He really was a special person and will be missed. Prayers to you all.

To Steve's family, Tricia, and friends, we share your loss. I can't believe he's gone. Very sad. I'll always remember his encouragement. Few stories for you. My parents had a wedding anniversary coming up and after taking dancing lessons with Steve at PSM for awhile I thought it would be great if he could come. He did. He gave a lesson and DJ'd. It was the hit of the party. Totally unexpected for everyone. He did it again for our own wedding. Again it was a big hit. My wife and I took dancing lessons with Steve for awhile so we could do our solo dance in style. We had some acquaintances that were having a wedding coming up in a very short time and were looking for a DJ. Hello guys, you need to get your act together quick. Don't worry, I have the guy that can take care of it! Steve Montuori! Would he be able to fit it in? YES!!! Another hit. 3 for 3. Steve always made people feel like they could do the dancing and was a very patient teacher. His smiling face and spirit will live on. We'll always remember him fondly. Thanks for what you gave us Steve.

His initials were his calling card.

Here’s a recipe for fun:
- a little Poise
- a smidgeon of Style
- some well-timed rhythmic Motion
- a little shimmy is optional when the desired mood is playful

Everything we are
is an awakening of sorts
and when we’re taught
we find how to look inside

Shall we still dance ... today?
Who’s hand shall we hold when the partner
we had has earned the rite to dance at heaven’s ballroom
where even Beethoven can hear his own latest arrangements?

When our teacher has left us it’s because
he’s done all he can and now we must stand
on our own two feet, while the beat of each rhythm
brings forth the memories of all that he taught us

I want each lesson learned to bring honor to
the memory of our times spent together
I want to keep on dancing ... and not let
these tears ... interfere with the stride of my step

Do you see me? Can you tell I’ve been practicing?
I’m keeping my shoulders back and down,
my chest is out and I’m feeling tall
and I’m holding my posture real cool – yet relaxed

I’ll always remember you;
you’re initials P.S.M.
are engraved in my heart –
reflections in my mind each time I dance ...

To the Montuori Family, Trish and Friends of Steve:

I/We would like to express our deepest sympathy for your and our loss. Steve touched so many of us by sharing his love for the dance. What started to be a night out for lessons or "mandatory fun" turned out to be a night to look forward to. Although we tried twice to place in Tango and never scored, the pleasure was all in the preparation and the opportunity to partner with you on the floor. I thank you for the joy you brought to me and the sense of accomplishment that I would have never known. Rest in peace. Joan and Bruce

At almost 83 years of age, I was Steve's oldest student and enjoyed my private lessons for 10 years. After 7 showcases at Maronais Park, he was planning #8 for December. He was full of ideas to add to the Quickstep routine we had been practicing. On September 13th, Steve, Trish and I were planning to celebrate my 10 years of private lessons with him. I was getting ready for my lesson on Aug. 28th at 1:30pm when I heard the shocking news of his passing. He was the best teacher as well as the kindest and most generous human being. For me there's no replacement. Steve had many devoted students and friends. He will never be forgotten. Trish, I loved you from the minute I met you and thought you were the best partner for him. You and Steve dancing together was a joy to watch, a perfect fit! I will never again hear Steve saying before my lesson "Are you ready Trud? Let's get rocking." What a loss for all of us. Trudy Sand

Our deepest condolences to Trish and to Steve's family. Steve was one of a kind--artful, skilled, and yet a truly humble man who was always willing to give of himself. He will be sorely missed. Sept. 5 would have been my first showcase, danced with Steve. Eventhough I will not be able to do that, I do not regret one moment I spent learning the routine he so beautifully choreographed and so patiently taught me. It was my privilege to have been able to do this.
Sal's and my time at PSM has been very special, providing us with something that is uniquely ours--time together. For this we thank Steve and Deborah and all of the wonderful people who are a part of PSM.

Arrivederci to a very special friend.

To Trish and "Pasquale's" entire family and extended family at PSM,

I am a recent dancer with PSM having started last year for the Dancing With The Realtors event. I trained for the event and could have stopped when it was over.

I took one lesson with Steve after the event finished and I was hooked. He was an amazing teacher but an even greater partner.

I didn't know a lot about Steve personally. However, if I had know his real name was Pasquale, I would have had a little fun with him! Coming from a fellow italian whose real name is Leona Antonetta Theresa Mazzamurro, he would have enjoyed it.

I wish to extend my deepest sympathies to all of you. I will keep Steve and all of you in my thoughts and prayers.

Steve was one of the finest and sweetest men I have ever met. Two years ago I had an idea to launch a Dancing with the Stars event with local stars as a fund raising event...first one in Worcester and per chance I drove by his studio PSM on Hope Ave, and I left a message not knowing to whom. Steve immediately returned my call and after one meeting he enthusiastically accepted to work together. Due to his generous contribution of his studio, dance instructors, his time, videoing, photographing, costume donations, endless meetings, endless promotions and parties...the "Dancing with the City I, and II" to benefit Preservation Worcester were successfully staged with the most recent one last March at Mechanics Hall to an audience in excess of 300. The event was also very successful due to the fact that Steve co MC'd the evening with Andy LaCombe making it the first class event it was. But what I will remember him mostly for and will remain embedded fondly in my heart is being invited as a guest at those evenings at Maronis Park when he would introduce me as if I was Worcester's premier media star...and after he had danced with just about everyone who attended and after his beautiful world class performances with his beautiful Trish C...I would run up to him and say, "Steve...please, please dance the Tango with me and make sure you make me look good!" He never hesitated (regardless of how tired he was) and would take me strongly into his arms, with a big smile...and glide me along...making me look and feel as if I was a Goddess on that dance floor that night. Steve, I am one of the fortunate ones who have lots of video of you that I will keep forever to remind me of how fortunate we were to have you provide such joy in all our lives through your love of dance.

Trish, and to Steve's entire family,
Me and my husband are just so sadden to hear of Steve's death. He was the most considerate, unselfish, talented man!!!!!! He passed away, before his journey on this earth was even close to to completion. What a loss to many, many friends, family, and loved ones. Our prayers go out to all that loved him.
Steve..... We love you!!!!!

Steve was a wonderful person, and a great dance instructor.
He had the ability as a leader in dance, to make his partner
look great, even if she were a beginner. That seemed to be
his only concern--a gentle leader and a gentleman.
He will be greatly missed.

Every time we walked in the door of PSM, Steve's warm welcome would greet us. He understood how to treat his students and that extra kindness was always appreciated. We enjoyed taking classes with him and trading our off track humor. We'll both miss him a great deal.

Our heartfelt sympathy goes to Trish and to Steve's family during this very difficult time.

Steve and his welcoming, good nature and salesmanship turned ballroom dancing from a 10-week whim to a substantial, sustained part of my life.

For eight months I have been coming weekly, and sometimes more, 60 miles each way because, for someone like me, Steve put together a place where serious dance was made more accessible.

Some of the friendliest people I've met as an adult have been just this year at PSM--the culture of his studio, how much it seems to take on his own personality--this is a tribute to the man, an insight to his values and an indication of how he decided to run his business and be known in the community. I know I'm very glad to have known him, if only for a short time.

You will be missed, Steve, and my deepest sympathies to his family and other friends.

Steve was an amazing dancer. I'm glad I had the opportunity to learn disco even though I got dizzy with all those spins! I enjoyed learning all the different ballroom styles of dance. I still love to dance. My condolences to his loved ones.

Sincerely,
Patricia Grace Kennedy

To The Montuori Family:
Steve was one of those people who followed his dream and knew what would make him happiest. His wonderful understanding of people, how to deal with them and how to keep them dancing was a true gift. He was my teacher for 11 years. His exuberance for Disco will always be with me!! I will miss him terribly but will keep on dancing in some way to continue what he helped me build. I am so grateful I knew him.

Dearest Steve, I want to thank you for inviting me to your PSM home for the last two and a half years.  You changed my life like you will never know.  I will always be gratefull for the friends I made because of you, dancing all together with such happiness and joy. Your gentle smile made everyone at ease. May you rest in peace, you will always lighten our heart. Thank you sweet Steve.
