Median Bernice "Mimi" Penttila

Median Bernice "Mimi" Penttila, 89, of 8 Clark Rd. passed away on Sept. 1, 2008 in Quaboag on the Common. She was predeceased by her husband Oiva O. Penttila on March 1, 1980. She leaves a son, Leland Penttila & his wife Beverly of Charlton; a daughter, Marian Bell & her husband Richard of Spencer; 4 grandchildren, Kristina Leach & her husband Timothy, Rebecca Bell, Matthew Penttila, Sarah Snay & her husband Glenn; 5 great grandchildren, Zac, Ben, Holly, Cassandra & Wyatt.

Mimi was born on October 1, 1918 in Ashtabula, Ohio, the only child of Aimo Saarinen & Leena (Senia) Aho Saarinen. She was Spencer's first woman mail carrier. Later at age 50 she became an LPN, retiring from Harrington Hospital. She was a former President of the Spencer PTA, a former Equal Employment oficer for the Town of Spencer, member of the Spencer Golden Agers & Council on Aging, Board of Directors for Tri-Valley Elder Services and a member of the Harmony Rebekah Lodge. Mimi was a very involved member of the Spencer Methodist Church and sang with the Melody Makers. She loved to read, bake, sew, crochet and drive her car, which she did until she was 88. She was extrmely proud of her Finnish Heritage and had a fantastic memory to the end. Mimi was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

A celebration of Mimi's life will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at 11:00 AM in the Spencer Methodist Church, Main St., Spencer. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. Please omit flowers.
