Robert Berube Obituary

Robert J. Berube, 86, of Cherry Valley, Leicester, died on Tuesday, September 2, 2008, in St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester, after a short illness.

His wife of 46 years, Mary E. (Dumont) Berube, died in 1990. He leaves his son, Robert J. Berube, Jr., and his wife, Susan A. (Richardson) Berube, of Woodstock, Ct; 4 grandchildren: David C. Berube of Laguna Hills, CA, Steven R. Berube and Kelly J. (Berube) Mendes, both of Millbury, and Matthew M. Berube of Cherry Valley; 9 great-grandchildren; a brother, Norman A. Berube of Millbury; nephews and nieces; and his longtime neighbor and companion, Cecelia R. (Gremo) Gonyea of Cherry Valley. He was predeceased by a brother, Leo Berube of Cherry Valley. He was born in Worcester on December 2, 1921, a son of the late Joseph W. and Lillian M. (Laprade) Berube, and lived for several years in Uxbridge before moving to Cherry Valey in 1956. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Berube worked as a machinist for 30 years at Worcester Controls, West Boylston, before retiring in 1984. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Parish, Leicester; United Steelworkers of America, Local #2285, Worcester; Hardwick Rod & Gun Club; and the National Rifle Assn. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, and his gun collection.

The funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, September 6, in Turgeon Funeral Home, 56 Main St., Millbury. After the service, he will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife in St. Mary's Cemetery, Uxbridge. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday, September 5, from 6 to 8 PM.
