Mary Coulthard Obituary

Mary E. "Betty" Coulthard, beloved by both her family and the West Brookfield community, passed away on Wednesday, September 3, 2008. She is survived by a sister, Janie Maddox of Hillsboro, Missouri; her five daughters, Cathleen S. Coulthard of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, Karen E. Michalski of Northglenn, Colorado, Deborah G. Coulthard of Eugene, Oregon, M. Christine Schlosstein of West Brookfield, and Mary E. "Betty" Coulthard of Tampa, Florida, along with eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, to whom she was known as "Bongie." She was pre-deceased by her husband, Peter A. Coulthard, and her son, Peter A. Coulthard, Jr.

Betty lived in West Brookfield for over 40 years. She served the community as Town Clerk for 13 years, and was involved in a number of local causes, including the Inaugural Bandstand Committee and the War Memorial Committee. She was a devout Catholic. Perhaps more than anything else, Betty loved to spend time and party with family and friends.

Betty's funeral will be held on Monday, September 8, 2008 at 10:00 AM in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Main Street, West Brookfield, MA. 01585. The burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to attend calling hours on Sunday from 3 to 7 PM in the Pillsbury Funeral Home, Route 9/Old West Brookfield Road, Brookfield. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the West Brookfield Rescue Squad, PO Box 540, West Brookfield, MA 01585.

Dear family of Betty,

We just returned from a week at Rockport with our "kids" to find a message on the machine from several days ago saying your Mom has died. We are so sorry to hear that even though we knew she was very ill. Most of our "good times" were with Pete and Betty and their young family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Lindsey and Barbara Smith.

There are so many wonderful memories of times spent at the "house with the red shutters". From sleep overs to four square and ping pong, your Mom made sure that we all had fun and plenty of laughs. She was instrumental in setting up our sewing lessons in Southbridge, skiing lessons at Mt. Tom, and our ski vacation at Okemo(?). She was there for all of our ski shows, boat club dinners, and just about everything else that was important in our lives. Your mother, and all of you "kids" played an enormous part in my early life, and I want you to know that she will be missed. She does leave a wonderful family behind to continue her lessons and keep the memory of her vibrant life alive. Certainly, you are all in my thoughts and prayers.
