Dorothy Seay Obituary

Dorothy (Slutsky) Seay, 99, died Friday, Sept. 5th, in her home, after a long illness. Her beloved husband of 52 years, Osborne (Jack) Seay died in 1980.

Known as "Nina" by her large and loving family, she leaves her son, Irwin Seay and his wife Adele of Longmeadow; three daughters, Patricia Roy of Worcester, Phyllis Joseph and her husband Everett of Shrewsbury, Lorraine Gordon and her husband Noah of Brookline; 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Born April 30, 1909 in the Poltava region of the Russian Ukraine, Mrs. Seay came to the United States aboard the S.S. Cedric in 1914 with her mother, Channah (Kazulin) Slutsky and four of her ten siblings. They joined her father, Yisrael Slutsky and three other Siblings in New London, CT. Dorothy later on worked in her father's grocery store, milked the family cow and drove the horse and wagon in which milk was delivered to customers. She attended public schools in New London and moved to Worcester 71 years ago.

As an adult in Worcester, she sold women's clothing at Coleman's in Lincoln Plaza for 22 years and retired when they closed the shop many years ago.

For a number of years, prior to her illness, she was a volunteer at the Jewish Family Service in Worcester and during WWII she served as a nurses aid at St. Vincent Hospital. She was a member of Women's American ORT and B'Nai Brith.

Funeral services will be held at NOON, TOMORROW, MONDAY, SEPT.8th in Perlman Funeral Home, 1026 Main St., Worcester, MA 01603. Memorial observance will be held 2 PM to 8 PM through Wednesday, Sept 10th at the residence of Patricia Roy, 18 Hartshorn Ave, Worcester. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
