Astrid Griggs Obituary

Astrid E. (Asplund) Griggs, 93, formerly of Auburn, died peacefully Thursday, at Sunbridge Sandalwood Nursing Home, Oxford, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.

She is survived by her son, George J. Griggs, of Auburn; nine grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Cecil J. Griggs, in 1978, and son, Burton H. Griggs in 2004. She was the daughter of the late Oscar and Anna (Norgard) Asplund.

She was born in Auburn and was educated in Auburn schools. Mrs. Griggs worked as the housekeeper at Mass 10 Truck Stop, Auburn, for many years, and also at Goodwill Laundry, Worcester.

She was an excellent cook and also enjoyed reading, word jumbles, knitting, gardening and sewing.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, September 8, 2008, in the Hillside Cemetery, 65 Central Street, Auburn. There are no visiting hours.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472.

The Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central Street, Auburn, is assisting the family.
