Michael Sushchyk Obituary

Michael Sushchyk, 87, died on Saturday, September 6, 2008, after a short illness, while at his home on 169 Princeton Road. He was attended by his three children at the time of his death.

He is survived by three children, a daughter, Laurie A. Faucher of Jefferson and her husband Charles A. Faucher; a son, Paul M Sushchyk of Sterling and his wife Betty A. (Baca) Sushchyk; a son, John S. Sushchyk of Sterling; six grandchildren, Michael, Christopher and Kathryn Faucher all of Jefferson, and Sarah, Abigail and Michael Sushchyk all of Sterling; and a sister, Anna Hancock of Sterling. His wife of 42 years, Eldora S. (Moe) Sushchyk predeceased him in 1995.

Mr. Sushchyk was a lifelong resident of Sterling, living all of his years on his beloved farm. His parents, Jacob and Katryna, moved to Sterling shortly before his birth on March 21, 1921. He worked most of his life as a dairy farmer. He also ran a road side vegetable stand growing excellent sweet corn. In his later years, he was employed as a custodian for the Sterling Public School System.

He is best remembered as physically very strong but of a gentle nature. He enjoyed people and took a quiet pride in his family and grandchildren. He was always ready to extend a helping hand to anyone in need. His passing is deeply mourned by family and friends.

The family would like to especially thank Dr. George Eypper, of the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, his staff, and the Sterling Council on Aging staff and van drivers for their diligent care and attention shown to him during his final years.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, September 8th, in the Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Rd. (Rte. 12), Sterling. A funeral service shall be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday in the funeral home with interment to follow in Hillside Cemetery, Sterling. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Sterling Council on Aging Van Fund, P.O. Box 243, Sterling, MA 01564, in order to subsidize senior transportation.

Dear Laurie, Paul & John,

You know that I've been thinking of you all since hearing of Uncle Mike's passing from Laurie. As I told her, it's an end of an era. What wonderful memories I have of the farm and Auntie Dora & Uncle Mike. How I loved to go out and visit you all. Joanna and Barbie send condolences and reminiscences to your whole family--through a message to me. Much love and prayers are with you from California. xo

John, Paul, Laurie,
I am sorry I can't pay my respects properly, but when I found out, I was out of town for work. We (John) talked the week before, and you know how sorry I am. Mike and Dora were real great neighbors, and the memories will last.
