George M. "Rebel" Clark

George Clark Obituary

George M. "Rebel" Clark, 83, of 50 Charlton Street in the Rochdale section of Leicester, died Wednesday, Sept. 3 in Parsons Hill Nursing Center after a long illness.

He leaves his wife, Donna M. (Wood) Clark; a step-son, Wayne Snay of North Oxford; two step-daughters, Nancy Conlon of Worcester and Kathleen Thompson of Woodstock, Ct.; 5 step-grandchildren, 8 step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Clark was born on July 12, 1925 in Cullman, Alabama, son of George and Rosie (Cleveland) Clark. He retired after many years as a loom fixer at the Heywood Schuster Woolen Mill in Douglas. He loved working with wood and traveling. He and his wife, Donna spent their free time touring the country in the camper that he built himself.

George was a decorated veteran of WW II, serving on board ships that participated in many of the major battles in the Pacific, including the Battles of Midway, Okinawa, Luzon, Leyte, Marianas, Marshall, Gilberts and Aleutian Islands, as well as the Liberation of the Philippines. Among his decorations during the war were nine Battle Stars, the American Theater Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal. He served in the military from 1942 until 1948. A man of few words, he never spoke of his many wartime experiences and it was only upon his death that his family, through Military Records, learned of the extent of his service to his country.

A Memorial Service will be held Friday, Sept. 12 at 6:00 PM in MORIN-MORRISON FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main Street, Leicester. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. A calling hour will be held from 5:00-6:00 PM preceding the service. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's Assoc., Massachusetts Chapter, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472.
