Raymond Plante Obituary

Raymond L. Plante, 96, of Worcester, died Saturday, September 20, 2008 in the Leo P. LaChance Center, Gardner. His wife, Clara B. (St. Jean) Plante died in 1994.

He leaves three sons, Richard P. Plante of Gardner, Roger L. Plante of Biddeford, Me., and Bernard A. Plante and his wife, Susan W. of Barnstable; a sister, Loretta Cournoyer of Auburn; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and nephews and nieces. He was born in Southbridge, a son of Henry L. and Eva (Lusignan) Plante. He later lived in Maine for several years before coming to Worcester where he lived for most of his life.

Mr. Plante was a machinist for many years for Lodding Engineering Co., Auburn and retired 31 years ago. During World War II he worked as a machinist at the Portsmouth Navy Yard, Portsmouth, New Hampshire. He was a longtime member of St. Joseph Church, now Holy Family Parish. He worked on the parish fund drive to build the Ducharme Center and was an active member of the committee to "Save St. Joseph Church".

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, September 24 from DIRSA - MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 298 Grafton Street, with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, 35 Hamilton St. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Northbridge. A calling hour will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday, Sept. 24 from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
