Ruth Prinsen Obituary

Ruth M. (Barrett) Prinsen, 91, of Redstone Place, died Tuesday, September 23, 2008 in Sterling Healthcare after an illness.

Her husband, Eugene L. Prinsen, died in 1963. She leaves four sons, Robert Prinsen of Fitchburg, Ralph Prinsen of Leominster, Wayne Prinsen of Spencer and Allen Prinsen of Worcester; two daughters, Joyce Shepardson of Sterling and Cindi Johnson of Greenfield; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her son, Lester Prinsen, and two brothers, Raymond and Paul Barrett.

Ruth was born in Leominster, daughter of Raymond P. and Gertrude (Gibson) Barrett and lived many years in Sterling. She was a member of the First Church in Sterling where she served as a Deaconess. She was also a member of the Sterling Silver Squares and was an avid reader.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 25th, in the Miles - Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Road, Sterling. The funeral service for Mrs. Prinsen will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 26th, in the First Church in Sterling, 6 Meetinghouse Rd., Sterling. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Sterling. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 330 Congress St., 5th Floor, Boston, MA 02210.

Joyce and family, so sorry for the loss of your mother, grandmother. I remember her well and the boys. I recall the transition of Joyce and family into the house and the logistics of the move. Many happy memories will help at this time.

Aunt Ruth was a kind, warm hearted person who was always nice to spend time with. She always kept everyone up to date with her letters and cards. She was a quite a lady.
