Edmund Boyns Obituary

Edmund D. Boyns, 93, of 7 Waterville St., North Grafton, passed away peacefully September 24, 2008 surrounded in the love and care of his family in his home where he lived for 92 years.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Virginia F. (Young); two daughters: Karen Boyns - Lucy and her husband Tim of Dayton ME and Deb Larkham and her husband Thomas of Millbury; one brother, Robert Boyns formerly of North Grafton; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four sisters: Buella (Boyns) Gagnon, Vivian (Boyns) Wood, Grace (Boyns) Cross and Pearl (Boyns) Fleming; three brothers: Earl Boyns, Alfred Newell Boyns and Clayton Boyns, who was killed in action during WW II.

He was born April 16, 1915 in Grafton, the son of the late Alfred P. and Wilhelmina (Buck) Boyns, a lifelong resident attending Grafton High School and joining the US Army in 1942. He was a World War II Veteran serving as a Corporal with The 825th Signal Service Co. and was specially trained at Super fortress school in Seattle, becoming an airplane power plant specialist servicing B 29 bombers. Following the war he worked in heat treating at Wyman Gordon Co. for over 30 years. Mr. Boyns was a member of The Baptist Church of Grafton, The American Legion and The Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Ed cherished Memorial Day ceremonies, the outdoors, camping, gardening, tending to his yard and playing cards, particularly cribbage. He was also a skilled woodworker spending countless hours in his shop building and refinishing furniture and making creative crafts. The family suggests donations be made in his name to The Baptist Church of Grafton Memorial Fund, 1 South St., Grafton, MA 01519 or UMass Memorial Hospice, 650 Lincoln St., Worcester, MA 01605, in lieu of flowers.

Funeral & Calling Hours

The Funeral Service for Mr. Boyns will be Tuesday September 30th at 10:30 a.m. in The Baptist Church of Grafton, 1 South St., Grafton Center. He will then be laid to rest with military honors in Pine Grove Cemetery. Calling hours at Roney Funeral Home North Chapel, 152 Worcester St. are Monday September 29th from 5 to 8 p.m. A condolence book and directions are available at: www.
