Regina Szafarowicz Obituary

Regina M. (Grudzinski) Szafarowicz, 85, of 83 Ward St, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008 in her home surrounded by her family. Her husband of 54 years, Eugene Szafarowicz died in 2001.

She leaves three sons: Eugene E. Szafarowicz of Misawa, Japan; William J. Szafarowicz of Wilbraham and Michael A. Szafarowicz of Woodstock, CT; three daughters: Christine M. Biernat of Southington, CT., Regina H. McFadden of Charlotte, N.C., and Teresa M. Mangano of Ft. Wainwright, AK; a brother, Edward Grudzinski in New York; thirteen grandchildren: William and Elena, Christopher and Melissa, Eugene J., William, Anthony, Jacqueline and Michael, David and Kate, and Laura and Kate; eleven great-grandchildren: Joshua, Luke, Holden, Isabelle, Zachary, Austin, Raya, Damion, Alyala, Teagan and Leia; and several nephews and nieces. She was born in Worcester, a daughter of Stanley and Helen (Czarneski) Grudzinski and lived here all her life.

Mrs. Szafarowicz was a registered nurse and worked 24 years at St. Vincent Hospital before she retired. She graduated from Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing in 1942. Regina was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, the Our Lady of Czestochowa Women's Guild and she volunteered many hours for church and school functions.

The funeral will be held on Monday, Nov. 3 at 8:30 a.m from HENRY-DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward St, with a Mass at 9:30 a.m in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours in the funeral home are Sunday, Nov. 2 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to VNA Care Network, Hospice, 120 Thomas St., Worcester, MA, 01608 or Elder Services of Worcester Area, Inc, 411 Chandler St, Worcester, MA, 01602 or to St. Mary's Schools, 50 Richland St., Worcester, MA, 01610.

I was deeply saddened to hear of the loss of my Aunt Regina and would have attended the services had not my mom been being buried on the day she passed. I did not know you all and deeply regret that. My prayers are with you.

to the szafarowicz family words cannot express the sympathy i feel for such a kind and wonderful family as yours. although we have not seen each other in many years your mom always told me about your many exploits and accomplishments. she was so proud of all her children grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.i have many fond memories of all you guys on all the outings and trips we all made many atime. just growing up together on ward street!!! again all my thoughts and prayers are with all of you during these difficult times. i won t be able to attend any of the services because of some health issues at this time but i will be thinking of all the wonderful days and years your mom provided us all. sincerely tom markiewicz
