Arthur Varney Obituary

Arthur Varney, 81, of Worcester, died Saturday, November 8, 2008 in UMass Memorial Hospital, Lake Avenue Campus. His wife, Alice (Begin) Varney died in 2006. He leaves a son, Michael Varney and his fiancée, Anna Confer; a daughter, Debra Varney; a brother, Robert Varney, all of Worcester; a sister, Marion Anderson of New Sweden, ME.; a grandchild, Danielle Varney; a special friend, Laura Dube, both of Worcester and nieces and nephews.

Mr. Varney was born in Worcester, a son of Archie and Angelina (McNault) Varney. He was a maintenance supervisor for Filene's Department Store for many years before retiring to become a caregiver to his wife and daughter. He served in the US Marines during the Korean War. He enjoyed fishing and bingo. During his lifetime, his family always came first. He was a dedicated and caring father and friend who will be remembered for his loyalty and commitment.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, November 13 with a service at 11:00a.m. in DIRSA-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 298 Grafton St., Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton, MA. Calling hours in the funeral home will be Wednesday, November 12 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
