James P. "Jimmy" Pedone, Jr., WPD (Ret), 77 of Shrewsbury, died Monday, November 10th, 2008 at Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center (formerly University Commons) in Worcester, after a long illness.

He leaves his wife of 48 years, Ann "Shirley" (Carter) Pedone, of Shrewsbury; a daughter, Lisa Marie Pedone of Cambridge; a son, John Joseph Pedone of Falmouth (formerly of Milton); three grandsons: Christos James Pedone, Loukas John Pedone, Evangelos Nicholas Pedone, all of Milton; two sisters: Clementina "Nellie" (Pedone) White of Worcester, and Ann "Nina" (Pedone) Trotsky of Auburn; a brother, Anthony Pedone of Worcester; several nephews, nieces and cousins. He was predeceased by four older brothers: Bartholomew "Bart" Pedone, Angelo "Spike" Pedone, Joseph "Joe" Pedone and John "Jackie" Pedone.

Mr. Pedone was born in Worcester, on October 4, 1931, the seventh of eight children of the late James and Rosa (Simone) Pedone, immigrants of Italy. Jim attended Gage Street School and graduated from Commerce High School in 1950. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He enlisted in the Navy from 1951 until 1959, during which time he traveled extensively around the world. While in the Navy, Mr. Pedone served as a cook, providing daily meals aboard ship for approximately 500 men. After being honorable discharged from the Navy, Mr. Pedone worked for many years as a bricklayer for a construction company that was owned by his late father. Jim then worked as a Worcester Police Officer for more than 30 years.

He was a member of the Biscegliese Men's Club, the Local #6 Bricklayers Union, the Massachusetts Police Association, the Knights of Columbus, and was a parishioner of Saint Mary's Church in Shrewsbury.

Mr. Pedone was an avid gardener and cook, and enjoyed spending time with his large family, especially during the holidays. James was a regular visitor to Cape Cod for many years, where he spent vacations with his family and enjoyed shell fishing. He also was a frequent patron of Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun Casinos.

Mrs Pedone, John and Lisa you are in my thoughts and prayers. I'm so sorry for your loss. Mr Pedone was a great guy and I always enjoyed the little conversations we had while I waited for John to get ready to go out for the evenings. They will always be fond memories for me.

To the family of Jimmy Pedone, I am very sorry for your loss. He was a down to earth guy who served the City of Worcester's citizens well. He had a great sense of humor and he will be missed by his family and friends.

Having studied at Boston University with John I had the chance to meet Jimmy in 1986 or so. I remember Jimmy as a generous and caring father who acted from his heart. During the holidays I was always welcome at the Pedone home in Shrewsbury and have fond memories of Jimmy and his wonderful hospitality.

Jimmy was a great friend, father and husband. We will miss him dearly. His time with us was marked by accomplishments and happiness.

Condolences to Shirley, Lisa and John and the extended Pedone family.

Fondly,

Raj
