Mr and Mrs. Mahoney, Tim and David

I was very sad to hear the news about Phillip from my folks. Although it has been an awfully long time since I have seen you (especially Tim and David), I think about you all often - it's part of the connection tha comes from having known you since I was a kid. I will be thinking of you all today and in the coming weeks, rembering the good times from Stow and Fitchburg, and smiling sadly.

I want to express my sympathy to the family. I remember Phil from years back. Phil was a good friend to my son, Chris. They attended St. Bernards and graduated together in 1986. Phil had a special charm about him. He loved his family and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time.

I always knew Phil growing up; our families were friends and so we were at a lot of the same “families and friends” gatherings. But being 8 years older than me, for a long time Phil was one of the adults while I was still just one of the kids. But last year I was lucky to see that dynamic change. I emailed him pretty much out of the blue for advice on graduate school – he’d already done it, and I was considering it – and in our back-and-forth he wrote with a humble good humor about his ups and downs of getting in and getting through. I was flattered and grateful that he gave my questions such attention, and that he shared so much of his own story to help shape mine.

It's really jolting to grasp that our new connection has had to stop there; I'll miss Phil very much. All my love and thoughts to Phil and Freddie, Tim and David, Nicki, Mary and Elizabeth.

Philip always seemed like a quiet soul in class. His brain was always going though, high honored student, I certainly admired him from the back row where I sat. Although I have not see Philip since 1986 I have thought of him often. Wondering where life had brought him or rather where he brought life. I see his life was full of love. I pray for angels to watch, guide and comfort his family now and for the rest of their journeys. My heart goes out to you all.
