Marie Jerome Obituary

Marie (Jones) Jerome, 80, of South Kingstown, R.I. and Boynton Beach, Fla., and formerly of Worcester, died peacefully on Thursday, November 13, 2008 surrounded by friends and family at South County Hospital, Wakefield, R.I.

She was born in Worcester, the daughter of the late Francis and Mary (Miller) Jones. She was the wife of Henry F. Jerome who died in 1985.

She is survived by two daughters Cathryn Mezynski of Worcester, and Maureen Major and her husband Steven of Richmond, R.I., and a son, Dennis Jerome and his wife Patricia of Worcester. She leaves seven grandchildren, Stephanie and Daniel Mezynski, Steven and Samuel Major, and Melissa, H. Andrew and Brian Jerome. She also leaves a brother, Raymond Jones and his wife Ann of West Boylston, nieces, nephews, and many cousins including Reverend Francis X. Miller S.J. and Reverend Francis X. Sullivan. Her brother J. Philip Jones predeceased her.

Mrs. Jerome graduated from North High and St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing, both in Worcester. She was a Registered Nurse for many years at the former Worcester City Hospital. Later, she also was a librarian at Robert Beverly Hale Library in Matunuck, R.I. and served as a volunteer at the St. James food pantry in Charlestown, R.I. and at South County Hospital.

Calling hours at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester, are Sunday, Nov. 16 from 3 to 6 p.m. The funeral will be Monday, Nov. 17 from the funeral home with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 25 Fales St., Worcester. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Worcester.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice Program at South County Hospital, 100 Kenyon Avenue, Wakefield, RI 02879.
