Gerard Bazner Obituary

Gerard J. "Jerry" Baszner, 83, of 700 Benson Rd. died Sat. Nov. 15 after an illness. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years Marjorie T. (St. Andre) Baszner; 2 daughters Andrea Walczak of Connecticut and Gail Bickes of Whitinsville with whom he lived; 4 grandchildren Lori Walczak, David Walczak, Bonnie and her husband Chris Spring, Teresa Smith and her husband Bill,; 4 great-grandchildren Delaney and Camden Spring and Ethan and Devon Smith; a sister Pauline and her husband Phil Gauthier of Connecticut; nieces Cheryl Trilligan and Allison Ahern; and nephews Michael Gauthier and Richard Baszner. He was brother of the late Richard "Dick" Baszner. Born in Whitinsville on May 8, 1925 he was the son of Edgar and Aura (LaPierre) Baszner and lived here most of his life.

Mr. Baszner was a local pharmacist many years, working for the former Lynche's Drugstore over 20 years, the former Worcester City Hospital 15 years, the Fallon Clinic and Ft. Devens Clinic where he was recognized for outstanding service in 1994. He was a graduate of Northbridge High School and the N.E. College of Pharmacy which was assumed by Northeastern University where he was class Valedictorian. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII where he served as a Corporal with the 82 Airborne as a medic. He participated in the Invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge where he received 3 batlestars and the Combat Medic and Paratrooper Badge. He was a member of St. Patrick's Church where he was a Eucharistic Minister and an acolyte. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and loved golfing.

His funeral will be held Wed. Nov 19 from Jackman Funeral Home, 12 Spring St. with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, 1 Cross St. Burial at Fairview Cemetery in S. Grafton will be private. Calling hours at the funeral home are Tues. Nov. 18 from 5 to 8 p.m. Donations may be made in Jerry's memory to the Northbridge Ambulance Fund, Box 13 Whitinsville, MA 01588.
