Mary Johnson Obituary

Mary D. (Darling) Johnson, 86, of 70 Briarwood Circle, died Saturday Nov. 22, 2008.

She leaves her son, Robert E. Johnson and his wife, Maria, of Tampa, Florida, and three granddaughters: Anna-Maria "Mia" Johnson, 24, of Atlanta, Georgia; Allison Hastings Johnson, 22, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; and, Alexandra Darling Johnson, 15, of Tampa, Florida. Her loving husband of 61 years, Frederick W. Johnson, died July 4, 2007.

Born in Worcester, daughter of Clarence J. and Alice (Kingston) Darling, she graduated from Classical High School, and attended Lasalle Junior College and Salter Secretarial School. She worked for many years at the law firm of Anderson & Pentland, and was a volunteer at Mill Swan School for handicapped children and UMass/Memorial Hospital.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Stella Chapter No. 3 Order of the Eastern Star, Friends of Hope Cemetery, Friends of Mechanics Hall, Preservation Worcester, Worcester Historical Museum, and Worcester Art Museum.

She was a beautiful person, both inside and out, and will be remembered lovingly by her son, his family, cousins Leif and Siw Kristiansson of Worcester, and their daughter, Karen Kristiansson and her family of San Mateo California.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am on December 5th at the First Baptist Church, 111 Park Ave., Worcester, with a collation/reception in Gordon Hall immediately following the service. There are no calling hours. Cremation and burial will be at the All Faiths Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Memorial Fund of UMass/Memorial Health Care, 16 Shaffner St., Worcester 01605, or the Memorial Fund of First Baptist Church, 111 Park Ave., Worcester 01609. CASWELL-KING FUNERAL HOME, 474 Grove St., is directing the arrangements.
