Our family,especially Ellie, has been richly honored and priveleged to have known Coach Crispen. Her legacy, as a hero, will endure in the hearts of many folks forever.Her young ladies at Sweet Briar will carry many fond and lasting memories of a coach, artist, administrator, but most importantly, friend. She was an inspiration and positive role model for all. God Bless You!

To the Sweet Briar Community and the Crispen family:
Please accept my deepest sympathy on your loss. Jenny was one of the 16 of us to graduate from UMass. Amherst in Physical Education, WOPE "67. She was amazingly bright, articulate and fun and deeply loved by her classmates. We are in awe of her courage in battling cancer and are so grateful she was able to join us on Cape Cod for our reunions to share memories. I am a proud owner of a watercolor she painted of my cottage that I cherish.Jenny was a natural athlete and would try any sport even gymnastics! She was a member of our team at UMass and added so much to our practices. Her first love was ventinary medicine but the pull of sports won Jenny over. It does not surprise me at all that she devoted her life to bringing those lessons and excitement to her students as a beloved coach and professor. I do hope that if services are held in Massachusetts you let me know. Our classmates most definitly would like to attend and honor her memory.

Crispen was a true gem at SBC - she will be missed terribly! I was so happy to come to Sweet Briar and know that there would be fencing - kind of an unusual sport for the south, esp at a small women's college - and she was a wonderful coach for us.

Crispen was by far the best Field Hockey coach, professor, animal lover and role model I've ever had. When I was at Sweet Briar her passion and caring for us off the field was as great as when we were on the field! I will never forget what an impact she had on my Sweet Briar experience. I believe that Crispen will always be an Angel watching over Sweet Briar and it's students.

To the family and friends of Crispen;
I chose SBC because of the academics, the beautiful setting,the study abroad program and because I could play field hockey. Little did I know that Crispen would make certain I took advantage of all those things. She pushed me on the field, in the classroom and she made certain I took risks. Because of Crispen, I have travelled the world...and I always pack my running shoes...because she gave me the first lesson of loving where I was and soaking in all I could. Today, I live an active and curious life...because she paved the way for me. We had lots of goofy conversations, but somehow she always threw in something a little deeper...making me feel like I had an obligation to be all I could be...anywhere I was. What a legacy to leave....

Jennifer was by far the most courage and positive woman through her battle with cancer. I met her in 1990 as the athletic trainer for Sweet Briar and was immediately struck by her passion for her student athletes, her love of the arts and animals, and her sense of adventure. The angels will bond with her as quickly as many have in the past!
