Edward McCarthy Obituary

Edward J. McCarthy, 89, of Worcester passed away Sat., Nov. 22 in Notre Dame Long Term Care.

His wife of 42 years, Janine J. (Struchowski) McCarthy died in 1988. He leaves four children, Edward J. McCarthy and Timothy J. McCarthy both of Worcester, Robert M. McCarthy of Jefferson and Kathleen J. Wojnarowicz of Holden; a brother, Robert A. McCarthy of Worcester; a sister, Marion F. Mastronardi of Revere; thirteen grandchildren; three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Thomas J. McCarthy and Richard M. McCarthy and two sisters, Ruth A. Chanis and Margaret M. Xenos predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Michael J. and Mary E. (Morrissey) McCarthy and graduated from St. Peter's High School.

Edward worked for the New England Telephone Company for many years, before retiring. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and was a member and past officer of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Div #36. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Notre Dame du Lac Assisted Living, especially the girls at Harmony and also the Notre Dame hospice staff.

The funeral will be held Tues., Nov. 25, from Callahan & Fay Brothers Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St. with a Mass at 10:30AM in St. Peter's Church, 931 Main St. Burial will be in St John's Cemetery. Visiting Hours are Mon., Nov.24, from 5 to 8 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to, the St. Peter's Church Food Pantry, 929 Main St., Worcester, MA 01603 or to Mont Marie, c/o Retired Sisters of St. Joseph, 34 Lower Westfield Rd., Suite 1, Holyoke, MA 01040-2739. to the mc,carthy family as a driver for dj,mungovan trucking co.over the years i got to work for ed a lot and he was one of the few people that i never seen get mad,he was just a very fine person to be around and i know he will be missed by all who knew him.
