Richard Satkowski Obituary

Richard T. Satkowski, 60, of Holland, died Saturday, November 22, at home. He leaves his wife of 33 years, Lucie (St. Laurent) Satkowski; a son, Phillip Satkowski, of Holland; two daughters, Laura and Krysta Satkowski, of Holland; a sister, Lynn Pariseau, of Westfield; his father, Ted Satkowski, of Stafford Springs, CT; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was born and raised in Stafford Springs, CT, the son of the late Lorraine C. (Goryl) Satkowski. Rick graduated from Monson Academy in 1966, and earned his Master of Arts degree in History from the University of New Hampshire. He later earned his Masters in Divinity from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

A bold proclaimer of God's Word, Rick was a dedicated pastor for over 23 years; first at Christ Baptist Church in Worcester, and, later, at Emmanuel Baptist Church in West Springfield. He was also involved in Racing for Jesus Ministry, a pursuit which combined two of his greatest passions. In addition to pastoring, Rick worked in education, insurance, and most recently, social services.

The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 26, in the Holland Congregational Church, 11 Sturbridge Rd., Holland, MA. Burial will follow in the Holland Cemetery. Calling hours will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, November 25, in the Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home, 51 Marcy St., Southbridge. Memorial contributions may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church, 24 Front St., West Springfield, MA.

The Satkowski Family:
Rick and I were the best of friends during the summer of 1966. He had just graduated from Monson Academy and was anticipating his continued education in the fall. I had just finished two years of college and was anticipating Army helicopters and the Vietnam War. But for those two months there was no yesterday or tomorrow, just fun and games. That was a once in a lifetime summer, where our only problem was finding enough beer. We never saw each other after that; our lives took drastically different paths. I wish I could have seen him one more time. I'll see him again someday though. Please accept my most sincere condolences, Dennis Phelps. P.S. I was the bad influence.

I was shocked to hear this sad news. I knew Rick as a kid-growing up in Staffordville, Ct. He was wild, crazy, funny, very witty and a bad influence on my older brother-Dennis. They had great fun together. Rick grew up to have a great impact on people. That is what life is all about!

Satkowski family,
I share your grief on the loss of your husband and father, and my friend and teacher, Rick. I really enjoyed Rick’s company at Thompson and Stafford and thank God for Rick’s faith and uncanny ability to always have a story I could relate to when I was in a pinch. I enjoyed hearing how proud he was when he told me about Philip’s journey to a closer relationship with Christ. And I shared his sorrow as his mother became ill.
Rick’s faith and passions led him to minister to the racing community, following Acts 1:8. I reflect on Rick’s passion, his humor, and his pride in his family. Most of all I remember Rick’s love of Jesus.

Rest, Brother.

Lucie, Phillip, Laura and Krysta: Ted, Lynn & Steve and Aunt Wanda--

I am so sorry for your loss. I'll remember Rick's quick wit and what a good man he was. I have fond memories of times at the Cape and those always-to-quick holiday visits. Your husband, your Dad, your son, your brother, your nephew... was a wonderful man of whom you all can always be proud.
