Robert Helmer Obituary

Robert J. Helmer 73, of Bonita Springs, FL died November 26, 2008 in Naples, FL. Bob had been a resident of Florida since 1997, living in Naples then Bonita Springs coming from Middlebury, CT. He was born November 10, 1935 a son of the late Wilbert J. and Helen (Raduns) Helmer. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in Germany and graduated from Dartmouth University with his MBA degree. Mr. Helmer began his career with Sears and Grants Department Stores. In 1977, he accepted a position with Duracell International and retired in 1997 as the Director of Cash Flow management. After retiring to Florida, he worked for 4 years at Fish Central in Naples, continuing a life long hobby. He also drove for Private Car for 3 years. Bob was an ardent member of Red Sox Nation and never missed a game. He is survived by his loving wife, Joan A. Helmer of Bonita Springs, FL; daughter, Michelle L. (Richard) Martin of Sudbury, MA; sister, Mary Beth (John) Sypher of Staunton, VA and two grandsons, Jack and Kevin Martin. An informal gathering to celebrate his life will be held at the family residence on Tuesday, December 2nd, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
