Dorothy Pierce Obituary
She was born in Framingham in 1928, daughter of Melville and Marguerite Burns. Her husband, Phillip Pierce, passed away in 2003. Dottie leaves behind her daughter, Bonnie Shattuck and fiance Ira Hoffman of West Boylston, MA; her step-daughter, Dianne Morgan and husband Frank of Harpswell, Maine; her granddaughter, Amanda Bradstreet of Bath, Maine; great-grandchildren: Kyra and Ryan Bradstreet. She also leaves behind two sisters: Lorna Dunham and husband Jim of Port Charlotte, Florida and Marlene Fisher and husband George Fisher Jr. of Millis, MA. Her brother, Weston A. Burns pre-deceased her.
Dorothy graduated from Framingham High School, Class of 1946, and the Academie Moderne in Boston and had a brief career in modeling before marrying.
She lived in Framingham with her former husband Kenneth L. Bates until 1984. She was an accomplished artist, decorative painter, craftsperson, gardener, enthusiastic homemaker and an adventurous cook - she baked an awesome pecan pie. She was active in many community and social organizations including the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
After receiving a certificate from Quinsigamond College, Dorothy worked as an activities director for Westborough Nursing Home. She retired in 1992 from Saint Patrick's Manor in Framingham where she worked as an activities assistant.
Dottie loved to travel and experience new things. She liked to read about archaeology, science, medicine and Maine living.
After cremation, a memorial service will be held at the West Harpswell Baptist Church, 1492 Harpswell Neck Road (Route 123), Harpswell, Maine on Saturday, December 13th at 1:00 p.m. Graveside services at the Rural Cemetery in Southborough, MA will be held at the convenience of the family at a future date.
The family wishes to convey their gratitude to Parkview Adventist Medical Center and Beacon Hospice Inc. for the compassionate care provided to our loved one.
