Calvin Kuniholm Obituary

Calvin Kuniholm, 59, passed away peacefully in his sleep Nov. 26, 2008. He was the son of Leonard and Ellen Kuniholm for whom he had been a loving caretaker the past 10 years, enabling them to remain in their own home.

Calvin attended Classical High and Webster Academy and was a graduate of the USC, after which he worked as a piping engineer at Fluor Corp. in Irvine, CA. He was an expert skier, enjoyed golf (especially his hole-in-one), and liked to ride his Harley Davidson. At USC, Cal starred in John Carpenter's first film, Dark Star, now a cult classic.

Calvin leaves his parents; a brother, Jonathan and his wife Gunilla of Lyme, NH; a sister, Faith Krinsky and her husband Sam of E. Setauket, NY; his nephews, Eric and Mark Kuniholm and a niece, Sylvia Krinsky; his special friend, Rita Bulger; and many friends. Cal was a big guy with a big heart who lived life to its fullest.

A memorial service for family and friends will be held at NORDGREN MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 300 Lincoln Street, Worcester from 6:30-7:30 p.m., Friday, December 5.

So sorry to hear of Calvin's passing. He was one-of-a-kind! I'll never forget him, Buddy, and the infamous fur coat standing outside the Bean Counter. You'll live on in our memories, pal!

Dear Family

Having just met dear Calvin and his "Buddy" only last Christmas Eve I cannot imagine your sense of loss. His spirit was infectious and he was captivating. He spoke of caring for his folks in a way that reflected both his love for them and life. My heart goes out to you at this difficult time. I hope and pray that God provides for you what Calvin no longer can. In loving peace.

I am so sorry to hear about Calvin. Calvin and I were in the same confirmation class at Trinity many years ago. He always had a twinkle in his eyes and a shuffle in his step that made him so much fun to be around. Calvin had spunk and that is what made him so endearing. My thoughts are with his family.

It was sad to hear about the passing of my "Cousin Cal". Our time together had been sadly limited but all my memories are fond.
I was a 7 or 8 year old boy standing in swimming trunks at the end of his parents dock on Queen Lake when a Cal said, "Have you ever been thrown in a lake?"
I said "no" with a laugh and he tossed me in.
He was in his early 20's and strong as an ox, a giant to me.
He repeated this activity to my happiness, at least a half dozen times. Later we explored a small island from a rowboat.
He visited our home in Kentucky several years later, passing through while traveling, he was kind and funny. We washed his new car out on the curb.
When I was in my teens our family visited Worcester, MA for our Grandmother Lydia's birthday, Cal was there and had me laughing as usual. We shot basketballs in the gym of the church together.
The night before our family had met with him, we left together to bunk down at his parents home. We arrived late and Cal went to check on his mother.
Ellen was reading in bed. Cal stood in the door and said, "Ma, I got a friend that needs a place to stay the night. Alright he stay in John's room?"
She said, "Why sure Calvin..."
I walked in and Ellen laughed at us both.
Cal, you were my friend and you will be missed.

Ellen, Lenny, Faith and Jonathan:
Words cannot discribe how Mary and I feel at the sudden loss of my nephew, Calvin. He was always kind and attentive and lived a full life. His love for his parents is reflected by the 10 years he spent as a loyal son and caregiver. We have many memories of those happy hours together and will always keep them in our hearts

May God rest his soul and bless the family in this dark hour.

I met Calvin in 1955 when we were just kids. We stayed friends for many years but unfortunately we lost touch as time past and life got in the way. I often think of those times and the many great memories especially how kind Mr. and Mrs. Kuniholm were to me. My deepest sympathies to Calvin's parents, Jonathan and Faith. You will be in my prayers.
