Nancy Badagliacca Obituary

Nancy M. (DiBenedetto) Badagliacca, 95, of Fitchburg, died Tuesday, December 2, in Health Alliance Leominster Hospital, after an illness.

She was born October 12, 1913, in Fitchburg, daughter of the late Paolo and Rosina (Cefalo) DiBenedetto. Mrs. Badagliacca worked for the State of Massachusetts as a Matron for the Shirley Industrial School for 10 years, retiring in 1978. Previously, she had worked for the Lancaster School of Girls. She was a member of Saint Anthony de Padua Parish and a founding member of the Venerini Sisters Guild.

Her husband, Gaetano Badagliacca, died December 24, 1995. She was also predeceased by her son, Lawrence "Capo" Badagliacca on October 4, 2008, her grandson, Chris Badagliacca, her brothers, Gaetano, Frank, Paul and Reverend Dominic DiBenedetto, and her sisters, Elizabeth Condon, Mary Ruberti, and Sr. Rosemary DiBenedetto.

She leaves her son, Paul Badagliacca and his wife Janice of Westminster; her daughters, Sister Janet Badagliacca, M.P.V. of Fitchburg, Rosalie Marabello and her husband Joseph of Fitchburg, and Sister Pauline Badagliacca, M.P.V. of Rutland; her daughter-in-law, Eileen Badagliacca of Fitchburg; nine grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; one brother, Michael "Slick" DiBenedetto and his wife Eleanor of Fitchburg; her brothers-in-law, Paul Badagliacca of Leominster and Aurelio "Babe" Ruberti of Leominster; her sister-in-law, Mary DiBenedetto of Fitchburg; many nieces and nephews.

Nancy was a warm, loving, giving, witty woman with a tremendous sense of humor, whose family and friends were always warmly and graciously welcomed into her home. Her greatest loves were her family, her Church and her faith, and her friends.

She was an avid Red Sox fan who was thrilled to live to see the Red Sox win the World Championships both in 2004 and in 2007. She enjoyed family and friends joining her at her home on Saturday evenings to play cards.

The Badagliacca family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude for the tender, loving care given to Nancy during her stays at Leominster Hospital, in particular her granddaughter, Joan Marabello. They also extend their gratitude to the entire staff at the Golden Living Center in Fitchburg and to all her home caregivers.

The funeral was held Friday, Dec. 5, from Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 A.M. in Saint Anthony de Padua Church, 84 Salem St., Fitchburg. Burial will follow in Saint Bernard's Cemetery.

Calling hours were held Thursday, December 4, from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. in the funeral home.

To all the family especially Paul, Janet, Rosalie, and Pauline:
Our sincere condolences on the death of your mother. I have many warm memories of our family relationships and one especially of Nancy. I would pick up Janet on our way to Hosmer School and when we returned from school, Nancy would always have some snack for us. She served us an icebox cake of graham crackers and pudding. Always the little cook, I duplicated it at home. Then I made it for my own family and they in turn make it for their children. How one little memory lives on and keeps that person in our hearts.
Our prayers are with you today.
Love, Paul and Gloria (Zarrella) Hand

To all of Little Grammy's Family,

Where do I begin? We are all going to miss Little Grammy very much.
She treated us just like we were her own and she loved our two daughters and they loved her. She was so special to us. We have so many wonderful memories.....Wednesday lunches, having her at Emily and Abigail's birthdays, her amazing sense of humor, her deep faith, and most of all her smile and her hugs. She always teased me and spoke Italian and I loved that. She always
made us laugh and she was so sharp, right to the end.

We now have an angel in heaven and we know she will always watch over us.
We thank God she was a part of our lives. We love you Little Grammy and we
will never forget you.
With our love,

Jennifer, Hank, Emily and Abigail MacKinnon

To the Entire Badagliacca family;
Nancy was my friend and neighbor for 5 short years of her wonderfully long life. I am honored and priviledged to have known her. She had a sharp wit in spite of her age and would often speak a funny twist to the current situation or conversation. She is at eternal peace with the Lord and her loved ones who have passed before her. I will miss being able to do errands and projects for her. I will string the Christmas lights on her house again this year and they will shine even brighter. I just know it.
Nancy;
Goodbye gracious lady.
Love,
Bill.
