Maude F. Ballou

Maude F. (Dudley) Ballou, 97, of Cedar St., died Wed., Dec. 3, 2008, in the Lydia Taft House, Uxbridge. She was the wife of the late Earl Ballou, who died in 1975.

She worked as a self-employed housekeeper for many years throughout the Douglas area. Previously, she was employed by the former Whitin Machine Works, Whitinsville and the Greeting Card Co. in Webster.

She was born in Douglas on Dec. 7, 1910, the daughter of the late William "Harry" and Clara E. (Blake) Dudley, and had been a lifelong resident of Douglas and attended Douglas schools.

Mrs. Ballou was a member of the Douglas Chapter of the D.A.R., a charter member of the Douglas Grange and was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church of Douglas where she had served as Deacon for over 10 years and was a member of the Women's Society. She enjoyed flower gardening, cooking, and sewing.

Mrs. Ballou is survived by 2 sons, Howard E. Ballou of Bothell, WA and Gary D. Ballou of Southbridge; 5 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Edward S. Ballou; 2 brothers, Gustavus Dudley and Harold P. Dudley; 4 sisters, Evelyn Favreau, Lucy Jones, Bea Caswell, and Alice Sherman.

Funeral services will be held Mon., Dec. 8, 2008 at 11 AM in the BUMA FUNERAL HOME, 101 No. Main St., Rte. 122, Uxbridge, MA 01569. Visiting hours will be Sun., Dec. 7, 2008 from 2–5 PM in the funeral home.
