Arthur Prefontaine Obituary

Arthur F. "Archie" Prefontaine, 91, of Auburn, died Friday, December 5th at home.

His wife, Jean R. (Moodie) Prefontaine died in 1993.

He leaves his three children, Robert F. Prefontaine and his wife Lin of Kittery, ME, Nancy J. Coonan and her husband James of Auburn, and Joyce A. Shea and her husband Denis of Kennebunk, ME; his seven grandchildren, Jay Prefontaine, Christopher Prefontaine, Steven Prefontaine, Lori Coonan, Robin Hanlan, Tracy Blais, and Craig Shea; as well as 10 great grandchildren; his sister, Jeannette Reardon of Texas; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, Archie was predeceased by his two brothers, Adelard and Raymond Prefontaine, and recently by his close friend, Janet Sjogren of Auburn, who died September 13th of this year.

He was born in Alberta, Canada, son of the late Adelard and Josephine (Gadboury) Prefontaine and has lived in Auburn for many years.

Archie was the former owner of Worcester Oxy-Acetylene, a company he founded and ran for many years. He was a former member of the Elks.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Archie's family on Tuesday, December 9th from 9-10:30 AM at the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St., Auburn. A funeral Mass will then be celebrated at 11 AM in North American Martyrs Church, 8 Wyoma Dr., Auburn. Following cremation, burial in Hillside Cemetery, Auburn will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to the Auburn District Nursing Association, 191 Pakachoag St., Auburn, MA 01501.
