Barbara Brown Obituary
Barbara Barnes Brown, 74, of Westborough, died on Thursday, November 20, 2008 at the Beaumont Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was the beloved wife of Rev. F. Robert Brown for 51 years.
Born in Albany, NY, she was the daughter of the late John and Barbara (Feary) Barnes. She was a graduate of Colby College and a member of Tri Delt sorority.
In addition to being a dedicated wife and mother, she worked at the New England Home for Little Wanderers, for the Bridge in its early days in Westborough and for Allen's Nursery School. She also was a well-known crossing guard, a job that she loved. She was also a faithful listener for the Listening Ear (often a last resort for desperate people).
Bobbie was a member of the Evangelical Congregational Church and sang in the church's choir. She was a former member of the Westborough Community Chorus, was a volunteer for FISH, and a former member of the Council On Aging. She quietly adopted several shut in seniors and assisted them with food preparation, cleaning, personal hygiene and transportation.
In 1985 the Westborough Grange proclaimed her as "Citizen of the Year".
Like so many others in her family, she died of Alzheimer's disease. But she never complained or felt she had been treated unjustly. She was a woman of real class both while living and even while dying.
In addition to her husband Barbara is survived by her children, Allyson and her husband Robert Roose of York, ME, Cynthia and her husband Michael Hogan of Tucson, AZ, Tamara and her husband Dan Wolfe of Herndon, VA, Glenn and his wife Carol Cox of Medfield and Jim and his wife Carrie Cowan of Westborough; one sister, Peggy and her husband Cal Dyer of TerraHaute, Indiana and nine grandchildren, Meighan, Robert, Chris, Kendall, Tori, Lindsay, Peyton, Campbell and Becca.
She was the sister of the late Charles Barnes.
