Virginia Fortier Obituary

Virginia Mae (Julian) Fortier, 84, died suddenly at her home on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008. She was married to Aimee L. Fortier on July 6, 1946 in St. Anne's Church in Fiskdale, He died on Sept. 19, 1967.

She leaves her son, Jeffery A. Fortier and his wife Sheila of Wales, and her daughter, Beatrice A. (Fortier) Martin and her fiancé David Hunt of W. Brookfield. She also left six grandchildren - all of whom were her pride and joy, Jeffery A. Fortier II and his fiancé Terry Morgan of Wales, Cheryl and John Phillips of Charlton, Derek S. Varnum and his fiancé Mary Chipman of Holden, Corey Varnum and his fiancé Kate Allard of Ware, Kyle Martin of W. Brookfield, and Katelyn Martin of Spencer: nine great grandchildren, also her pride and joy, Andrea and Allison Fortier, Brandon and Devin Phillips, Leah, Courtney, Cassidy and Derek Jr. Varnum and 2 month old Owen Rucki: also a step grand-daughter, Erica Norcross. She also leaves a brother, Ralph "Butt" Julian; four sisters, Delores "Del" Anger, Shirley Paulhas, Georgette "Dot" Benoit, all of Sturbridge, and Lucille "Lu" Caron of Danielson, CT. She also had two god children, Lorraine DaDault of Southbridge, and Lenny Julian of Florida and many nieces and nephews, all of whom she adored and loved very much. She is predeceased by her brother, Lenwood "Len" Julian and her sister, Pauline "Peg" Courtemanche, who passed four days previous, on Dec, 2, 2008.

She was born in Fiskdale, the daughter of Leodore and Edith (Clark) Julian and lived in the area most of her life.

Let it be known, she enjoyed life to the fullest and found good in everyone she met. Her absolute favorite thing was spending time with her family. She also enjoyed her bell collection which numbered over 300. She was a member of St. Christopher's Church in Brimfield. She served as President for the Woman's Relief Corps, was a proud life member of the American Legion Post 109, she served as their treasurer for over 20 years, also she was a proud member of the VFW and Senior Citizens Centers in both Sturbridge and Wales.

Virginia was employed at Palmerino Wholesalers in multiple locations in Southbridge for over 22 years. From the inception of the business until her retirement in 1989.

Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 10th from the Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., Southbridge, with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Christopher's Church, Rt. 20, Brimfield. Burial will be in St. Anne's Cemetery, Sturbridge. Calling hours in the funeral home will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 9th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
