Dorothy Brandt Obituary

Dorothy E. (Engelmann) Brandt, 93, of Cedar St., died Wednesday, Dec. 10th in the Radius Healthcare Center, Southbridge, after a long illness.

Her husband of 47 years, Neill M. Brandt, died in 1988. She leaves two daughters: Mary K. Brandt of Sturbridge and Boston, and Elizabeth K. Brandt of Sturbridge; a sister, Margaret E. Robson and her family of Camden, NY; a sister-in-law, Roma (Brown) Engelmann and her family of Glenwood Springs, CO; three grandchildren: Mark H. MacGrath, Jr. of Marshfield, Todd M. MacGrath of Charlton and Molly K. Jensen of Northboro; and 10 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by two brothers: George W. Engelmann and his wife Beatrice (Swetland) and William C. Engelmann. She was born in Narrowsburg, NY, the daughter of William Charles and Mary Elizabeth (Steine) Engelmann. She graduated from Narrowsburg schools, the College of New Rochelle and Teachers' College, Columbia University.

Mrs. Brandt was a retired teacher and tutor of students with learning disabilities. She was a member of St. Anne's and St. Patrick's Parish, the Harrington Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, the Southbridge Garden Club, and the Sturbridge Homemakers. She enjoyed playing golf with her friends until she was 90 years old and was an avid bridge player throughout her adult life.

Her funeral will be held on Friday, Dec. 12th from the Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., Southbridge, with a Mass at 10:00am in St. Anne's Church, 16 Church St., Sturbridge. Burial will be in St. Anne's Cemetery, Sturbridge. Calling hours in the funeral home will be held on Thursday, Dec. 11th from 6:00 to 8:00pm.
