John Coleman Obituary

John E. (Jack) Coleman, Jr., 85, died at home, December 13, 2008. Born in Worcester, he was the son of the late John E. Sr. and Alice Clements Coleman.

Jack was a graduate of St. Peters High School in Worcester. Upon graduation, he joined the Navy serving two years in Oran North Africa and later Norfolk, VA until his discharge in May 1946. During his service he was awarded the American Theatre Ribbon, European-African Middle Eastern Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal.

He married his wife of 62 years, Winifred A. Lucey in September 1946.

Jack owned and operated Coleman Industrial Catering for many years in Worcester. After selling his business, he became a sales rep for Curtis Industries of East Lake Ohio, servicing customers in the city and county of Worcester. In 1983, he transferred to Cape Cod where he and his wife owned a home in South Dennis. He serviced the Cape and islands for Curtis Industries. Upon retirement from Curtis, he worked part-time at Bayberry Golf course in Yarmouth until 2006.

His favorite pastime was playing softball. He played for many years with the Cape Old Timers League until his health began to fail. He and his wife bowled for many years with the Chatham newcomers in Orleans. Jack was a devoted family man and was known for his easy smile. He delighted in his children and grandchildren.

He was predeceased by sisters Alice Levasseur and Lorraine Morrissey. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons and two daughters, John E and wife Ruth of Leicester, Dennis and wife Virginia of Spencer, Gary and wife Lisa of Hubbardston, Neil and wife Ann Marie of Worcester, Donna M. wife of James Wolf of Holden, and Carol A. wife of Edward Fleming of Rutland. His sister Evelyn, wife of Vern Thorton of Lantana. FL and brother William P. Coleman of Woonsocket, RI, also survive him. He also leaves 14 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be Tuesday, December 16, 2008 from 4-8 p.m. at the Doane Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 260 W. Main St., W. Harwich. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Holy Trinity Church, Main St., W. Harwich at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 17, 2008. Interment will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.

A memorial service will be held in Worcester at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hospice and Pallative of Cape Cod, 765 Attucks Lane, Hyannis, MA 02601.
