Mario Romasco Obituary

Mario A. Romasco, 88, of 10 Peter Street died Monday, June 15, 2009 at home. His wife of 55 years, Rosamond (Waterman) Romasco predeceased him in 2002.

He is survived by his two sons, Harry A. Romasco and Michael A. Romasco and his daughter Priscilla Romasco Kryger, all of Uxbridge; 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He is predeceased by 2 brothers, John and Victor Romasco and 1 sister, Rita Rendell.

Born in North Uxbridge on April 24, 1921, Mr. Romasco was the son of Anthony and Nicola (Sabatino) Romasco and a life long resident of Uxbridge. He was educated in the Uxbridge Public Schools and graduated from New England Technical Institute in Providence, R.I. While attending Uxbridge High School he played in the band.

Mr. Romasco was a U.S. Navy Sea Bee during WWII, serving in the Asiatic Pacific arena. He received a WWII Victory Medal, a Campaign Ribbon with one star, the Sea Bee Insignia American Theatre Ribbon, and a letter of Commendation Ribbon with one star.

He worked at the Whitin Machine Works for 40 years and also owned and operated Romasco Burner Sales and Services for 50 years.

Mario was passionate about veteran issues. He was instrumental in obtaining a special act of Congress allowing Uxbridge to fly the American Flag 24 hours a day on the Uxbridge Town Common, when only 5 other communities in the United States were able to do so. He also played an important role in establishing both the Korean-Vietnam and Post Vietnam monuments on the Town Common.

He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His hobbies included ocean fishing and clam digging on Cape Cod, hunting and traveling to Italy. He coached an Uxbridge Intermediate League baseball team, was a founding member of the Uxbridge 4th of July Celebration Committee, was a member of the Quarry Hill Gang, was a charter member of the Uxbridge Taxpayers Association, and was a life long member of the following organizations: The VFW Post 1385, the North Uxbridge Italian American Club, the Whitinsville Rod & Gun Club, and the Southern Worcester County Police Association. He was a faithful parishioner of St. Mary's Church in Uxbridge.

His calling hours will be held on Friday, June 19th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Tancrell Jackman Funeral Home, 35 Snowling Road, Uxbridge. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, June 20th at a time and place to be announced. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Dear Nick,
I did not know your grandfather but I know he had to have been a great man. I know this because of how you are as a friend. That doesn't come natural that is learned through family. I also know he was a great man due to all his achievements and his involvement with his community. I also know that he fought for our country and because of that my heart is filled with sorrow and deep appreciation. Remember he may not physically be present but he will always be present in your memories.

Dear Uncle Briggs, It certainly felt so wonderful to have an Uncle like you...you were the best....no you are the best......just a couple things I recall...was when you installed a new kitchen faucet for us when we lived in Oxford and we went to use it and the cold water was where the hot water should of been and the hot water was on the other side....that was so funny and it made for a great conversation piece, and boy what a great job you did in putting in our much needed new furnace......thanks for everything....and I will never forget how...whenever you saw Joe, cathy and Jeff.....you always asked how Pooch (the dog) was...you always made the kids laugh....I will miss you, but I know that you are at peace with Aunt Roz and all the other family members....and thanks so much for being so good to Nonna after Dad died...you were so good....Oh, and when you see Jeff please tell him I love him.....
This is not goodby because I know I'll see you again....but until then....May you rest in peace with Our Blessed Lord, and know that I love you....Bevvie

Uncle Briggs,

There will come the day again when we will all jump in the car on a warm summer evening, stop for an ice cream, and venture down to see the cows on the farm.

Rest peacefully, Uncle Briggs. We will all miss you dearly.

Love, Greg

Dear Dad,
Where do I begin with all the thank you's? It was you who instilled in us the morals and values that have made us who we are and what we stand for today. It is through your example that we have learned to be loving and compassionate and giving. You always gave and never expected anything in return. You were such a wonderful friend to so many people. You would always spend your time visiting your friends in the nursing home or in the hospital. You loved to have all your family together and you would lend your ear to all of us who may have needed some wise advice. All of the memories are sweet.Kiss Mom for me and hug Aunt Rita and until we meet again I say to you arrivederci!

All my love,
Cilla

On behalf of the New England Country Music Club I wish to convey our most sincere condolences during this time of your sorrow.

Mario was a good friend to the NECMC.

He received one of the club's first two Honorary Memberships issued. This gesture was in appreciation for his complete support of our organization.

I met Mario back in the 1970s and always respected him.
He was dedicated to his country, family and friends.

God Bless you and may you find peace knowing he is resting with the Lord.

From all of Mario's friends in the New England Country Music Club

Dear Pa,
So often is it said "its not what you know, its who you know". Well, I could not agree more. I remember so many times shared, so many fish caught, So many places travelled, together. I feel so blessed to have been able to call myself your grandson. I know your at peace now with gram and everyone. While your up there make sure to save a few big fish for me when I get up there to join you. I also look forward to telling your great grandson Anthony Mario all about you. Please watch over all your family and protect us. And if you could, please help guide Leslie and I to raise our son to be a man you would be proud of. I LOVE YOU PA, and thank you for being THE BEST!!!!!!!
