William Bartlette Obituary

William A. Bartlette, 85, of Rochdale St. died Friday in UMass Memorial Medical Center after an illness.

He is survived by his loving wife, Evelyn (Simpson) Bartlette, a brother Victor J. Bartlette, Jr., of Sturbridge, and two sisters, Rose Burton of Auburn, and Eva Wahlstrom, of FL. He was "Uncle Billy" to some very special nieces and nephews that he loved very much.

He was born in Worcester; he was the son of the late Victor J. and Ida (Brodeur) Bartlette, Sr. he attended Worcester Boys Trade school. Although William was not a veteran, he did his part to keep Auburn safe during WWII as an Air raid Warden.

Mr. Bartlette worked as a foreman and carpenter at Rutland State Hospital for many years.

William was an Explorer Scout advisor for Troop 53 in Auburn, Past-President of the Worcester Chapter of NAFCA, and the Happy Sam's Chapter of the Good Sam's Club, a member of the Greendale Men's Club, Auburn/Webster Elk's, the Auburn Historical Society, he was an avid candlepin bowler, enjoyed camping, playing horseshoes, and playing the keyboard.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday June 23, from 5-7 PM in the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St. Auburn. Members of the Auburn Elks Lodge will perform a ritual at 6:30PM. His funeral will be held Wednesday from the funeral home with a Mass celebrated at 10AM in St. Joseph's Church, 189 Oxford St. North, Auburn. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Auburn District Nursing Association, 191 Pakachoag St. Auburn, MA or to the Auburn Historical Society, PO Box 322, Auburn, MA 01501-0322
