James P. "Jim" Palmer, 86, of Shrewsbury, died Thursday, August 23rd in Knollwood Nursing Center in Worcester after an illness.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Josephine E. (Zuk) Palmer; a son, Robert A. Palmer and his wife, Denise M. of Shrewsbury; a daughter, Michelle D. Capalbo and her husband, Peter A. of Shrewsbury; two grandchildren, Nicole C. and Brian A. Capalbo both of Shrewsbury. He was predeceased by 6 siblings.
Jim was born in Worcester, son of the late George and Mary (Hubbard) Palmer and had lived in Shrewsbury for 23 years. Mr. Palmer proudly served his country with the United States Navy during WWII having been involved in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre, Asiatic Pacific Theatre and the Philippine Liberation.
Mr. Palmer owned and operated Jim Palmer Landscaping Co., in Shrewsbury for 25 years before he retired in 1985. As a landscaper, you usually could find Jim in his spare time in his own back yard tending to his beautiful gardens. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was member of the D.A.V. and was a former member of the Adelphi Council # 4181 of the Knights of Columbus in Shrewsbury.
The Palmer family wishes to extend many thanks to all of the healthcare workers, nurses, and doctors at Summit Elder Care, Saint Vincent Hospital and Knollwood Nursing Center for their many hours of compassionate care that was given to Jim and his family during his illness.
Family and friends are invited to visit with the Palmer family on Sunday, August 26th from 3-5 PM in the Britton - Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury. His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, August 27th at 10 A.M. in Saint Mary's Church, 640 Main Street, Shrewsbury. Burial with military honors will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.
