Albin Seilius Obituary

Lt. Colonel Albin R. "Al" Seilius, 83, USAF Retired, of Worcester, died Friday, August 24, 2007, in the Rose Monahan Hospice Residence, 10 Judith Rd. His wife of 36 years, Dorothy M. (Janiszewski) Seilius died in 1984.

He leaves a daughter, Martha S. Hays of Northborough; a son, Major Ralph S. Seilius with the Mississippi Air National Guard, Gulfport, who resides in Ball Ground, Georgia; he also leaves a brother, Lt. Colonel Edward J. Seilius, USAF Retired, of South Hadley; a sister, Miss Anne M. Seilius of Worcester and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Staney. He was born in Worcester, a son of Ralph and Martha (Mortunas) Seilius and lived here all his life.

Mr. Seilius was a machinist several years for Heald Machine Co., and was then a machine parts sales representative for W. M. Steel Co. before he retired. He was a graduate of Worcester Boys Trade High School. Mr. Seilius was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He attended flight school and graduated as a Second Lieutenant. He was commissioned as a bombardier navigator and was assigned to an air base in Italy where he flew 25 combat missions over Germany. He received several medals including the Air Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, World War II Victory Medal and the Distinquished Unit Badge. He later joined the Air Force Reserve and served there until 1984 when he retired as a Lt. Colonel. He was a member of the Military Officers of America.

Al was a member of St. Casimir Church and was also a lector and choir member there and was a member of the Knights of Lithuania. He enjoyed singing and dancing. He was a member of the Ragg Mops and would entertain at senior centers and nursing homes. He also had hosted a polka music radio program on radio station WARE.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, August 28 from DIRSA-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 298 Grafton St., with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Casimir Church, 41 Providence St. Burial with military honors will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours in the funeral home are Monday, August 27 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Members of Council 26 Knights of Lithuania will at 6:30 p.m., during calling hours, conduct their ritual. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Casimir Church Building Fund, 41 Providence St., Worcester, Ma., 01604 or to a charity of the donors choice.

Unfortunately I never met Mr. Seilius - but I knew him through his son. Ralph spoke fondly and often of his father; radio comedy shows, various cars, and of growing up in his parents house. I know Al is a wonderful man as the son reflects the father.
