Irene Figoni Obituary

Irene M. (Ingemi) Figoni, 86, of Springfield died Tuesday evening, October 16, 2007 at her home surrounded by her family.

Irene was born in Barre, MA on January 9, 1921, a daughter of the late Anthony and Lucia (Panaccione) Ingemi. She was raised in North Brookfield, MA and graduated from North Brookfield High School. Irene worked for the City of Springfield as a buyer in the Purchasing Department for ten years and retired in 1983. During World War Two she worked at the Springfield Armory. Irene has resided in Springfield for the past 65 years and was a communicant of St. Catherine of Siena Church. She enjoyed lawn bowling and was a member of the Springfield Lawn Bowling Club at Forest Park. She was an avid bingo player, a member of the Springfield Golden Agers, Mercy Medical Center Cancer Support and Bereavement Group, a member of the Daughters of Isabella Magna Circle and a member of the former Holy Family Church Women's Club.

Besides her parents Irene was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Laurence J. Figoni who died July 22, 2001; and three sisters, Sister Natalie Ingemi SSJ, Grace Gaudette, and Mary Prescott. She is survived by her four daughters, Mary Ann Figoni and her husband Hossein Vahedi of Newton Center, MA, Lauren Wolff and her husband David of Feeding Hills, MA, LuAnne Waller and her husband Tim of Atlanta, GA, and Paula Figoni and her companion Robert Francis of Cranston, RI; a brother, John Ingemi and his wife Theresa of North Brookfield, MA; two sisters, Josephine Beaudette of Southbridge, MA and Laura Danek and her husband Edward Danek, Sr. of Enfield, CT; a grandson, Michael Wolff; two granddaughters, Mina Vahedi and Jennifer Stathatos and her husband Peter; two great-grandsons, Nicolas and Peter; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Irene's family thanks all of the caregivers who helped to make Irene's final days comfortable.

Irene's funeral will be held on Saturday morning October 20th 2007 at 8:45 a.m. at Sampson's Chapel of the Acres Funeral Home, 21 Tinkham Road, Springfield, followed by the Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Catherine of Siena Church, 1023 Parker Street, Springfield. Rites of committal and burial to follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 421 Tinkham Road, Springfield. Memorial contributions may be made in Irene's memory to the Sisters of Saint Joseph, care of Mont Marie, 34 Lower Westfield Road, Holyoke, MA 01040. Visiting hours for Irene will be held at the funeral home on Friday October 19th 2007 from 3 to 7 p.m.
