Josephine Johnson Obituary

Josephine F. (Belisle) Johnson, 90, passed away peacefully Thursday, October 18, 2007 in St. Vincent Hospital at the Worcester Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.

She is survived by a son, David C. Johnson, with whom she lived and a daughter, Sandra D. Sjoberg of Auburn. She is also survived by two granddaughters: Karin L. Sjoberg of Shrewsbury and Penny L. (Sjoberg) Ellsworth of Auburn; along with several cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends. Her husband, Hugo "Jack" A. Johnson and her sister, Evelyn M. (Belisle) Lorenz predeceased her.

Born in Worcester, she was the daughter of Frank H. and Florence A. (Engstrom) Belisle and had been a resident of Worcester all her life. She graduated from Commerce High School.

Mrs. Johnson worked as a Payroll Supervisor for Anderson Products Inc. in Worcester for over 25 years, before retiring in 1988. She was a devoted lifetime member of Hadwen Park Church serving many years as their Choir Director and Financial Secretary. She was a member of the Alert Group in the Women's Fellowship at church and served on numerous boards and committees. She especially enjoyed The Bible Study Group. She was also a member of The American Union of Swedish Singers, The Nordic Lodge of VASA Order of America, The Auburn Historical Society, The Greendale Retired Women's Club, The Scandinavian Women's Club and The Health Cabinet of St. Joseph's Church in Auburn.

She greatly enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Exploring the back roads and countryside of New England was another pleasure. Music was her passion in life. She loved to travel, watch birds from her sunroom, solve crossword puzzles, playing Yahtzee, Scrabble, Skip-bo and the piano. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

A Memorial Service will be held today, Saturday, October 27, at 2 P.M. at Hadwen Park Congregational Church, 6 Clover Street, Worcester.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Hadwen Park Music Program, 6 Clover St., Worcester, MA 01603.

David and Sandy,

We were deeply saddened to learn of Jo's recent death. She meant a lot to us both and was a dear friend. Spending time with her was always interesting and meaningful. Jo was the kind of friend that we all want to have - honest and true.
